New Model?

The German Financial Times has reported that Porsche might announce a new car in the middle of this year. The article was based on reports by parts suppliers that they had been instructed to prepare for a great increase in the number of parts required.

Suppliers have said that Porsche is planning an expansion of the Leipzig plant in readiness for the new model and that this demand would be in addition to the parts for the new Cayenne SUV.

So is this the Boxster Coupe we heard about last year...?

Porsche was showing a Boxster Coupe (as in fixed hard top), to focus groups here in California, about 4 months ago.
It seemed like a done deal, but from what I heard looked different enough from the current Boxster that a freshening of that car might be needed to, just to keep them in line with eachother.

We shall see I guess.

It is widely rumoured here in the UK that Porsche will be producing a face-lifted Boxster in September 2002.

Apart from minor bodywork tweaks (and the introduction of cupholders!) the car will receive a detuned version of the 911 3.4 litre engine (280bhp) and a heated glass rear screen in the soft-top.
