I think I'm about to come down with a cold. All in crap timing too since I'm off on holiday on Wednesday to Ireland for a wedding. irked

So far I've drunk half a litre of freshly squeezed orange juice (for vit C), and drunk about 1 litre of water although I'm not sure what else I can take to keep it at bay.

What does the PH massive use to fight off a cold? read

Hmmm....was planning the gym tonight but figured using up all my energy would not be such a smart thing. I take it swimming usually isn't so good? I thought about doing a couple of k's down the pool tonight....

Very, very hot curry - get sweating.

I also tend to have one day in bed, two duvets, lots of tea and toast (as well as a curry right at the start) and I normaly get over it within a day or two.

Much better than feeling rubbish for a week, sitting at your desk snivelling away and not getting much done.

I've been taking a minimum of 1000mg vitamin C a day for the last 10 years. This is natural vitamin C, not artificially made. Used to get colds every year, haven't had a sniffle since smile Also make sure to eat enough fruit & veg.

You need to be proactive not reactive to avoid colds & other viruses smile

Adopt the man down signature man flu stance, followed by "urghhh, im really not well, can you pass me the remote, oh and i'll have a cup of tea whilst your up"

Then take beechams day and night flu capsules (i'm ill constantly through winter and i swear by them)

also if you have a bad throat, go for solphadine plus, best stuff around.

It's not quite got to this stage yet......just feeling a bit "drowsy" and I've got the ol' headache and sore throat symptoms.

Not sure if I can take time off work to "suffer" since I go on holiday on Wednesday....

If you catch it early enough that Vicks First Defence stuff is brilliant. Otherwise paracetamol, decongestants and ride it out.

Get a good lot of veg in you, esp broccoli (sp?)
This will help and if continued, will help stop you getting them in the future too

+1, plus Berocca (or Sainsburys own version=cheaper). 1 Berocca per day during the winter months seems to do wonders.

Taking vitamin C once you have a cold will have NO effect on it whatsoever. Vitamin C, taken regularly as the body is unable to store it, helps to maintains a healthy immune system, but will in no way speed up any recovery.

Bear in mind that there is no cure for a cold; so the only thing which will help you feel any better is something which subdues the symptoms. Lemsip Max works outstandingly for me, though I have known people for whom it has little effect.

ETA - Lemsip Max Strength has a proprietary decongestant which most 'own label' versions do not. I find this to give it a noticeable advantage.

I usually have the fresh orange juice most mornings during the week so that's my main vit C source.

Not usually keen on taking lemsip unless I have the actual dribbly nose and coughing symptoms....unless it actually works in fighting it off......
