My dishwasher has packed up, and mrs gti is making threats along the lines of i will have to wash up unless i get it working. Obviously this will not be happening if avoidable at any cost.

Its a Zanussi DA 6373 and it starts a cycle but only runs for a minute or two before stopping. It does this whichever programme i set it on. Can anyone suggest anything to try before i end up with the marigolds on?

In the words of 'Rod Rammage' don your blues (read as: overalls) and show her who belongs in the kitchen!

The world is a mans, the kitchen is a womans...

I'm only joking women...we all know it takes a man to cook, thats why male tv chefs outweigh women! wink

It may be something completely different, but we have a Bosch dishwasher, that stopped working in a similar style to yours.

Eventually traced (by me!) to a lolly stick that had got through the exit filter, and was wedged in the exit pipework preventing the pump that removes all of the water from working properly. My guess is that the machine does some kind of "self check" at the start of the wash cycle, and if the exit pump is recognised to not be working, the machine won't go any further, otherwise you end up with a machine full of water, and no way of getting it out.

cool - shall have a look at the drain pipes later to see if its blocked. its annoying as its been working fine, but it is old. i cleaned the filter out but will investigate beyond the filter for blockages.

Mine was in the base of the dishwasher - i removed the filters in the base, and found the culprit lurking under there.....

I have exactly the same problem, i decided to just do the washing myself for a few months, fixing it seemed like too much effort.

let us know if you find anything, might be worth me having a look at mine too, cheers

It lives again! And i haven't had to wash up! I took the top, back and a side off to discover nothing. Then i took all the filters and gubbins out from inside the machine. Found one bit of glass, several bits of plastic and some horrible gunge that shouldn't be there. I cleared it all out, tipped the machine over to drain all the water out, and now it lives! I think it had just got blocked up.

thumbup I found on our Bosch that the internal mechanism sits in a plastic tray (Presumably to stop it leaking on the floor) and has a simple float/microswitch arrangement that cuts out as soon as it detects water.
