These days the so called 'no frills' airlines charge you more than the normal airlines when you book close to the travel date.

Is it worth holding out to try and get a last minute deal or is it best just to book it in advance?

If last minute, how last minute should it be? Do the normal airlines discount seats if they have any spare with say a week to the flight date?

Any inside info would be gratefully received and any tips of where to look to find the deals.

Thanks

If you are able to book 3 months in advance then the "no frills" lines can have some good prices.

For last minutes deals I have heard that turning up at the airport with a bucket of cash can lead to deals with the major scheduled airlines. Not tried this approach myself though!

Like the idea but I her in doors would probably think it was a bit high risk!!

Fair point. With this approach you do have to keep an open mind about where to go on holiday!

I was in the understanding that booking as far in advance as possible was when you got the cheapest. Booking last minute means they can charge the earth knowing full well people will pay if desperate.
