Submitted on behalf of a neighbour:

Neighbour was infected with Blaster last night, so I went round and removed. No problem. However, checked his Windows Update status and it is set to download automatically. However, it appears he either dials up for mail, or a bit of online shopping, and thats it. Consequently, he hasn't downloaded ANY patches from about September 2002 (no, really!)

Windows Update reckoned 43Mb worth of software, which over dial up is ridiculous, so I've downloaded them in the office earlier today.

However, what bloody order do you install them in? I fear it may matter, as one fix may undo or update another.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Can you get the names of the file downloads from the MS download site in date order (earliest first) and go from there?

Yeah, thought about that but there are 46 of them, and screendumping the Windows Update windows is a right PITA.

Might have to just scroll down and do one at a time.

Thanks for your reply FWD.

Running SP1 first normally takes care of a lot of them...

PS: Chances are high until he gets some AV software on there, he will get stung again with blaster or even W32.Welchia.Worm which is an even bigger PITA...

I had this problem before I had Broadband - so I just went around to a friends place (who had BB) and used their connection - an hour later - sorted !!!.

Now I've got BB as well and keep fully up to date.
