Hi all, got my Alfa 146 2.0 ti Twin Spark on tuesday. Goes realy well but have a few quirks which I need advice on.
The revs will only die down slowly when the car has been driven for a bit. It will hold 2 and half k for a few seconds, then returns to idle slowly in a series of revs ( i.e 1700, then 1500 then idle). Doesnt do it if you rev it in neutral which is wierd.
Secondly the wipers are jerky when on intermediate but not on normal or fast.
Thirdly is the drivers window will not always go up and down smooth, can hear a click sometimes when the button is pushed, but no movement. Then after a few goes it works.

Any help would be fab

Long live italian passion

(p.s used to quirkly cars as I have a TVR too!)

I've got a similar problem on my 146, think its pretty common. Been told it's probably the idle stepper motor which is on the throttle body. As mine seems to drive fine I havent got round to doing anything about it. Did think it was the MAF sensor at 1st but the replacement made it run terrible. As for the wipers I cant even get the fast setting, have even replaced the stalk! Alfas eh wink

Yes have confirmed with Motor Mechanic that it is the stepper motor. Just take it off and use carb cleaner to sort it out.
Tapping it seems to work too...........!
Found out that the wiper arm is worn and needs replacing. Will do that and should fix the problem.
Just got to work out how to get the boot open as the big spoiler closes it down again? A spring is needed I think

Don't you just love Alfas...........great drive though

The wiper issue is normal. I had a 145 then a 146 from new and both cars did this. I think Alfa saved a bit of money on the wiper motor as it is a two speed unit rather than three. The intermittent setting is basically the standard speed with every second wipe action removed which makes the movement seem juddery. I hated this but learned to live with it.

The boot issue is probably down to the gas strut. I believe you can get replacements at http://www.strutsdirect.co.uk/components/car_alfa_...
