the reason they are so expensive is because they are quiet an odd size, the best ive found them for is £52, but this is for 215/55/17 rather than 215/60/17. if i was you id go for these beacuse 5mil is going to make absolutly no difference in ride comfort and i doubt very much if your wife would even notice. go to www.camskill.co.uk and go into the car tyres section not the 4x4 section. hope this helps!!

nice one.
I also found the size 225 55 r17 are cheeper around £58.
Does anyone know if this size would be closer in size to the 215 60 r17 or would I be better with 215 55 r17.

you would be better with the 215/55/17's than the ones you have found.

215= 215 millimetres across
55= 55 millimetres depth of tyre
17= 17 inch wheel diametre,

apologies about the spelling!!

I thought that the 55 was the aspec ratio and not the tyre wall size in mm.
therefore 215 * 55% = 118.25mm and 225 * 55 =123.75mm
and the original tyre was 215 * 60 =129mm
So therefore both are going to be different from the original tyre size.
This is what I have been lead to believe.
Please advice anyone.

Thanks

nope thats wrong anyway, its the distance in mm from the lip of the alloy/rim to the original tread length of the tyre, measure it if you want!

Any luck with those xtrail tyres? Did you use the 225/55's? I'm in same position now - with Xtrail for wife etc etc. Thanks.

You are correct!

I fitted Pireli Scorpion Tyres to my X-Trail.....work really well! They were about £100 each

I got a web deal for our X Trail with kwik fit for 4 Pirelli tyres fitted and balanced for about £350 , it was a few months ago but worth checking online deals . Retail on the tyres was about £150 each .
