I've got a '57 plate Golf GT Sport 2.0TDI (140bhp model), that's started to smell when it started from cold. I know that diesels smell more than petrol but it just seems to smell more than it has done.

Is there something wrong with it (using your internet diagnostic skills wink )?

Thanks

So this has only started happening recently? Maybe it's because richer fuel is being chucked through the system due to the cold weather?

I'm no expert when it comes to diesel so just a guess from me really.

I have one. Mine doesn't smell.

What does it smell of?

I can't really describe what it smells like. Just of 'engine smell' I guess. Sorry I can't be more specific.

My A3 TDi makes what i reckon are unburnt diesel fumes on cold starts, usually accompanied by a small puff of smoke. It smells like those smokey old transits that always seem to be in front of me. I've been told this is usual for the engine on cold starts. Probably the same for yours.

I'll maybe call the dealership servicing department and ask. I'm not worried about any cost as it's a company car
