Just wondering what the average is and the reasons behind it? I find myself rarely buying flowers and bits of jewellery nowadays for various reasons and have been with her for 3 years. I used to buy them very regularly, even sending them to her work.

If you don't buy flowers but other gifts, what do you give?

I've told my girlfriend that if I ever buy her flowers without being forced to then she'll know I've done something really stupid.

If I see something that they'll really like then I will. If they deserve it I will anyway, if they don't I'll kindly inform them "I saw something today that I thought you'd love, but I didn't buy it because you're an ungrateful selfish cow!".

You don't want to talk about such things on an open forum, chap. She might see it.

I'll email you. That's secure.

I occasionally buy mine stuff she would like, little stuff though and save them for when I've been a bit of a twunt or when I've been somewhere and not seen her, that way she thinks I have been thoughtful and not just plucked something out of the cupboard in the garage.

The pain of purchasing flowers, random chocolate etc is easily outweighed by the earache you get when you never buy this stuff.

I mean, what would you rather do?

(a) Quickly nip into a shop and buy a modest bouquet, which makes you 'romantic'

(b) Curry favour by operating an automatic washing apparatus thing or hoovering machine or whatever they're called..

She thinks I've never bought her flowers. I've done it at least a handful of times (admittedly not for a few years), so I don't see the point as she'll only forget I ever did it. Besides which, every time I've been about to get her something token she usually pisses me off and I don't bother.

A man purchasing a gift for a woman as a token gesture, with no specific purchasable event like birthday or christmas, does not say to the woman "I love you" or anything similar.

No to a woman it says "he's feeling guilty about something".

Which within days leads to "he's having an affair"

Be wise chaps - don't give her gifts, they become merely excuses for punishment for undone deeds.

Never. I look stupid in golves or wearing rings.
