Colin McRae is working on a deal to secure the cash to run a two-car team with his brother Alister in 2004, according to a story in this week's AUTOSPORT Magazine.
McRae, who is out of contract with Citroën at the end of this year, said the chance to work with McRae Jr, who has been on the sidelines since Mitsubishi pulled out at the end of last season, interested him greatly.
“We work very well together,” said McRae. “We know how to deal with each other as well as Carlos and I did, except there would be a more personal element to this relationship. It would also be very good for a possible sponsorship deal with a Scottish company.”
McRae added that is was extremely difficult to drive any deals forward until the regulations for next season were firmed up.
Would Colin really want to drive a car that would be amongst the back-runners? I doubt it.
My guess would be that they've sounded one of the front end teams out about getting hold of some factory supported cars that get round the rules, privateer by name but with more factory help/supply than your average back-of-the-pack job.
Citroen even? They didn't want to lose Colin in the first place. Scooby or Ford? I'd guess on it being one of his previous employers that they team up with, guessing from what he's saying about waiting for the precise definition of the regs for next season.
I heard a rumour that Dave Richards was heavily involved in helping them out so too, so Hondas?
