Does anyone here have access to a wind tunnel and fancy doing something for publicity?

Andy Frost (Redvictor on here) needs to put his Vauxhall Victor- the world's quickest street legal car- in the wind tunnel, as despite having in excess of 2000bhp he's having trouble hitting 200mph in a 1/4 mile (best so far is 7.45 seconds and 197mph).

So, it's a long shot I know, but does anyone have access to such machinery? Andy's car is probably the only drag car that's known to the general public and has featured on TV several times. Despite that, it's budget for the year has been pretty much destroyed by a trip to Canada and an engine failure.

As I no longer have contacts in the F1 industry I thought I'd ask here. Surely it could be done as a publicity exercise?

Try contacting Universities, places like Cranfield would be best i'd imagine.

We've not got one big enough at our Uni, otherwise I can't see it would be a problem.

What does he want to achieve by going into the tunnel?

What does he hope to get out of it?

For a full size windtunnel like that, you might like to contact the guys at Southampton Uni, they used to have Jaguar and Minardi using their tunnel and I believe they now use it for rally cars.

I think you'll be doing very well to get someone let you use a wind tunnel for free.

My 4 year old son was letting rip in my bed (read: our own wind tunnel) last night. Great fun all round until the wife/mummy came back and put a stop to it all.

Sorry I can't help with the full sized version.

we hope to break the 200mph barrier in the 1/4 mile. The car has already achieved 223mph under light load(for Retro Cars feature) but under power the chassis/body acts in a different way.We are hoping to get some info on how to change the aerodynamics of the car for the netter without making it look, for want of a better word,sh it..biggrin
There is lots of publicity to be had for anyone that can help as we have access and know folk in TV,magazines, newspapers etc.
The car is known worldwide so there's lots of interest in what we are trying to do with a classic car.
Any contact info (with a name) would be really appreciated....
ANDY.

Hi Andy.

Tell me more about the Retro Cars feature? Is it current? I noticed the mag was back on the shelves.

It's either in next months or the month after Mark.Obviously dependent on what they have currently. What Simon(editor) said was for sure it'll be on the front cover and quite a few pages long.I promised i wouldn't give any other details only to say buy it in the shops.biggrin
Thanks for posting this up btw...

Loughborough uni have a wind tunnel but unfortunately it's far too small to get a car in. When I was studying there we managed to get our formula student car in the wind tunnel at Mira, but the aero and auto guys had a week of testing work thre as part of the courses. What you might be able to do is convince them to use your car as a test subject.

I can't remember who the guy is you would need to talk to but if this sounds of any interest I can ask some friends who you would need to talk to.

Yep, let's all work for nothing. We get this a lot on the photo forum too... and no, we don't need the publicity smash

I passed my test in a Vauxhall Victor...

I'm sure it wasn't as powerful as that...
