Hi guys, I see there are numerous options available for upgrading TVR suspension and I think it seems that either Ohlins or Nitrons seem to be the best (money no object) option.

The question is are Ohlins really the Rolls-Royce of TVR suspension, or not worth the extra money over Nitrons.

I think you have to look at the suspension the top race cars run. Either Penske or Ohlins. Awnsers the question.

Can you expand on that Joolz, I want Ohlins, but have not yet researched the subject, just the fact I know that Ohlins are supposed to be the best?

Im going on performance, price, how many rebuilds, how many re-rebuilds .. on that basis I'd be buying nitrons .. Mikes comment is interesting. He won this year's class on nitrons (ps Mike don't forget to let me have those back after Oulton )

I think value for money and the best performance are different things.

Yes my car ran a pair of Nitrons on the front for most of the season. However the Ohlines are a completly different ball game! The car is just so much better.

I'm sure for what you pay for a set of Nitrons they are good value and do give very good perfomance.

However if price isnt a problem and you want the "best" surely its between Ohlins and Penske??

To be fair Mike you're not comparing like for like.
You had a pair of nitrons on the front, but not race nitrons .. they were short stroke fast road/occasionaly track nitrons valved for about 400/450lb/in. They were better than the stuff you had on before certainly, but don't compare the performance of those nitrons with some proper race ohlins or proper race nitrons, it's a flawed comparison and not valid.

For some reason the dutch make great dampers, wonder why. I'm pretty sure Guy at Nitron used to work for WP ?

I'll throw Intrax into the ring as a top damper. I have them on the Cerb and think they are brilliant but I can only compare them to OEM and Avo from my experience and they are orders of magnitude better.

On the old V8S I went from OEM to Nitron and again they were more than step up.

I'm with Joo who fitted my Nitrons bow

Out of all of the mod's done to my car they were by far the most dramatic as far as improvement goes by a country mile yes

Hey thanks guys. From what I can gather it seems that generally people probably choose between Ohlins and Nitrons, but I think I've decided to go down the Ohlins route and we'll see what happens. I'm sorting out getting some Dymag magnesium wheels made up too - reckon they'll save about 5kg per corner, so will be interesting to see how the Sag handles with this little combo on.

Actually, whilst I'm at it, what do you reckon is the best size of wheel/tyre combination? Was thinking about increasing the width slightly at the rear and have been trying to work out if 19's might be slightly better than 18's.

Sorry, back to the suspension, who is/are the best person/company to supply/fit/set up the Ohlins? I don't mind travelling as long as the end result is worth it thumbup

Dave @ auroc is the the best chap to get your Ohlins from he had very good links with factory race team.
I send all my dampers to him.

Its not the suspension , its the driver that counts ! So don't worry if you can't stretch to the expensive options !

I've got both, and prefer the Nitrons fitted by Power.

That said, I'm going to get the Ohlins in to someone one of the days, to make sure they & the rest of the car is set up correctly. Andy @ APM appears to have a lot of experience with the latter.

A great deal depends upon your skill level and ability to set it up.

I talked it over with Ab Shocks before deciding on Nitrons. Very good they are too.

I could have spent more, but lacking driver talent to exploit better, or the need to set them up for a particular track by using a 3 way adjustable, what was the point. I could have kept fiddling with all the settings until I made the car worse, perhaps even unstable.

If you have both need and skill go for the Öhlins. If you don’t then the Nitrons won’t disappoint.
