...when I stumbled upon this advert

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/714002.htm

firstly I'm sorry to the PHer, if indeed it is one, for asking the following in relation to that advert but....

If you are advertising a service to help others sell their goods by having a quality photograph, do you not think it advisable to include quality photographs in the advert? Or am I missing the point? Is the point that the images used are examples of bad usage of images to sell something?

.. and if you're trying to sell your own service then perhaps you should check the spelling in your ad... if you can't get this right then what's the chance your product is equally bad...

Yes - that's a new verb isn't it?

From my rudimentary research and study of it's etymology, I believe it means "...to SLIde a cheap-to-provide service into an Ebay format..." I give you "to seli" - you wait and see Oxford English Dixiebook, 2009.......

(However, from my forays with Fleabay, it's a service that's desperately needed at times, n'est-ce pas? I've even thought of offering it myself...)

"If you are selling something from a Yacht to Helicopter or a Car to a Motorbike, then think how much better a chance you stand of selling your item if it is presented with a quality photograph.

I have been seliing items and taking photographs for years and know how important it is to get the images right

A PICTURE PAINTS A THOUSAND WORDS

Some people even advertise their items without a picture. So if you are looking at something to buy, would you contact the seller that does or does not display a photograph in their listing.

I live in a village in the South of Bristol and can travel anywhere, within reason.

For a quotation, feel free to email me with your requirements and I will be happy to forward on a price"

Grade D or above at 'O' level (or GCSE) English would help.

ETA ... and a decent photograph.

The trouble is that nowadays anyone with a £150-200 digi-compact can take competent-enough photos for a small-ads advert, so this sort of service isn't really relevant anymore. Even if you can spell...

It's a nice picture of his Scenic's seat though! (Scroll to the bottom to see the "For Sale" bit).

Well the cameras can - but the people using them can't (given Mrs Beano's foray onto Fleabay for pieces of costume jewellery recently where you can't see a damn thing!)

I wonder if we should all be promoting our wares in a section designed for selling kit?
