Whatever happens, I don't think the answer is to nationalise debts to solve things in the short term.

we're all gonna die.... we're all gonna die!

Come the revolution, brothers, the speculators are among the first up against the wall.

My pension is going to be crap because of these people as well as Golden Brahn.

I reckon that B&B is worth a pocket money punt. They have a portfolio of mortgage payers which has to appeal to another bank wanting to pocket something for the longer term. 5000 shares will only cost you £900; something will certainly happen soon, so you'll either lose £900 or at least double it within a week.

Spin the wheel!

Thought Roseby's cacked it aeons ago, my mistake. Hardly an important face on the high street.
MFI have swayed to near bust over the years and JJB have been on the cards of doom for a long time.

ha ha, dont worry I knew that already biggrin wink It is tempting to buy a few, just in case...I thought the same with HBOS when it was low 100's, but I only started dabbling about a month ago so very green and gave it a miss!

What about a currency?

"LONDON, Sept 24 (Reuters) - The cost of insuring 10-year U.S. government debt against default rose to a record high on Wednesday as investors fretted over the feasibility of the government's $700 billion plan to contain the financial crisis.

Credit default swaps on 10-year Treasury debt expanded to 29.2 basis points -- its widest ever -- from 26.5 basis points on Tuesday, according to CMA, a specialised data provider.

CMA said CDS on five-year widened to 22.0 basis points from 20.5 basis points."

When that AAA rating goes then the fun begins!

Wachovia got absolutely caned today. They won't survive much longer unless this $700bn gets passed through congress.
Re WaMu, they lost almost $17BILLION in deposits in just over a week....astonishing amount of cash.

The shoe chain that you allude to have always been skint, allegedly. I'm surprised they've lasted this long.

Another shoe chain that recently went into administration cost me very, very dearly frown

I should think MFI will still be around, perhaps in a different format but still there.
Systems & Supply Chain investment over the past few years means that there is value there for someone.
Galiform share price could fall further though.

The big retail stores pay rent every three months in advance. A lot of them are due to pay at the end of this month. I suspect that a few of them will not be able to find the cash to pay for it.

I still think that one big car dealer chain, a big car leasing firm and a housebuilder will go under before we start seeing any sign of an upturn.
