Writing a receipt for a private car sale?
Discussion
Just a quick question here, what sort of information do I need to include on a receipt for a car? Say if the vehicle in question is being sold with no logbook? I'm guessing something like the following.
Date/Time.
Vehicle Make, Model, Registration no. and Chassis no.
I, (sellers name), declare that I am both the registered keeper and owner of the above vehicle, or I am selling it with the registered keeper and owner's permission. The buyer, (buyers name) is purchasing this vehicle on the agreement that I am expecting the V5 Registration Document imminently and that I will contact him/her when it arrives so registration of the vehicle can be transferred.
Signed,
(sellers signature)
(buyers signature)
---
Would the above be sufficient for a receipt? I'm not expecting it to need any legal standing, just something to put both the buyer and seller at ease through the purchase. Can anyone think of any other info I'd need to include, I'm sure there's a few obvious things I've missed out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot.

It's not as big a deal as some may make out. For £25 and some time with a V62 you can get a replacement V5 within a couple of weeks.
I'd just put reg, chassis number if you want, your details, their details, price paid, time and date (for NIP purposes) and sold as seen. Whether thats any good or not I dont know, but it should show you've done enough to give the required info.
Oh, and photocopy it or print 2 out, one for you one for them

You must have exact time on both copies, as purchaser may not know your area and get caught by speed cameras! Does happen.

I once sold a car to a law lecturer who confirmed that 'sold as seen and tested' is worth putting on the receipt; he quoted me the test case of someone who tried to take the car back when something went wrong and lost becasue of the sold as seen and tested.
Would work with a "private" sale but not Trade.48Valves said:
A bit of advice required please.
What's the best thing to put on a receipt when the buyer is having the car collected by someone else?
The car has been inspected by a representative of the buyer. Money transferred, car being collected tomorrow.
Thanks
Don't do that! 3rd party collects car. Later another 3rd party arrives to collect and the car has left already. Buyer demands money back as he can't get car he paid for. What's the best thing to put on a receipt when the buyer is having the car collected by someone else?
