Benefits: Un-fecking-believabubble!
Discussion
My other half bumped into an old school friend today. Long story short, the old school friend is a 28 year old single mum of three, another on the way, claiming benefits, living in a council house and not doing any work.
She is given £880 per month to live on, and doesn't have to pay council tax or rent. Because she doesn't work, the government 'kindly' give her £1000 per new fecking baby.
Pig maths tells us that she has a greater disposable income than my OH working full time, earning IRO £17k, paying a childminder, the necessary bills and not being a complete sponging baby machine.
What is the bloody point in working these days? Furry muff, alot of people earn more than that so it become a pointless comparison, but it's not much of an incentive if you earn a similiar figure or less is it.
Love the government me.

My sister has never worked a day in her life, has four kids, by three different fathers, and lives quite comfortably on handouts and social welfare. She'll never have to worry about pensions, or where to live in old age. She is given £880 per month to live on, and doesn't have to pay council tax or rent. Because she doesn't work, the government 'kindly' give her £1000 per new fecking baby.

I can't blame her though, as she'd need to earn about £400 a week if she did ever get a job, just to make ends meet, pay all the stuff the social currently does, and pay for childminders etc. Or, she can sit at home raising her kids in relative luxury doing nothing.
The government has b
dized the welfare state, developed several generations of people who firmly believe it is their RIGHT to be supported, whilst doing feck all for it.A few years back, I went to a school reunion. Bad move.
I met an old friend. He was late twenties, and had never worked, apart from 1 month as a postie, since leaving school.
He claims everything from carers allowance for his parents, to invalidity for his bad back, to a special grant for his dyslexia.
Strangely, his bad back is non existant when he is playing 5 a sides every week, his Parents seem able to care for themselves when they are at the bingo and the bowling club, and he didn't seem to have dyslexia at school when he was achieving 4 higher grades. Bright guy at school.
In short he was telling me he gets over £1000 a month in benefits. Straight to his hand. As he also has a natty sideline in dealing pirated Playstation games and dope dealing, he was not exactly short of a bob or two. He figured, that to compensate him for having to get out of his bed 5 days a week, and for no longer being able to play Quake on line until 4am, and the tax he'd have to pay, they'd need to offer him a 60k PA job. And even then he said, I'd probably knock it back. He openly laughs at the DSS when they offer him positions at £12k PA in warehouses etc.
As I was at the time unemployed as a Pilot, it being recently post 9/11, and doing any kind of mechanical engineering work I could get to pay the bills and keep the rain off my head, you can see why I could have cheerfully spat on him.
Sadly, this country is full of examples like him. And we all know it, including the government.

What is the bloody point in working these days?
1. Pride (in yourself and your achievements)2. Posterity (your children are more likely to work if you do)
3. Prospects (of promotions and earning more in the future)
to name but three...
Hopefully the benefit cheats will eventually realise this and put in an honest day work.

Nice thoughts though, certainly some of the reason I continue to work my ass off for not much gain.

Not having any kids so not being aware of the true cost, and not wishing to detract from the OP's rant which i do agree with in principle, but does £200 a week to feed four mouths (soon to increase, probably with only another £20 per week for 5th) seem enough? Sure, hardly any transport costs going to and from work. Pack lunches for the kids. Cheap school uniform. Dunno. She is given £880 per month to live on, and doesn't have to pay council tax or rent. You have to remember as well - it is these people who riot, burn and kill if they're not given the money (I only mean a minority of them). There is a reason, which is not entirely altruistic, why there is a benefits system. It is because otherwise these people have no resource other than to start taking by force that which they do not have.
Benefits are a bribe to toe the line and leave the better off in society alone, and not steal their belongings.
BTW: The above is absolutely true - but it is by no means the only reason for benefits - which is to protect the genuinely weak, aid the helpless and to ensure no-one in a rich country starves and so on.
There are good, honest and would-be hardworking people on benefits as well as the scroungers we love to hate. But the scroungers ARE a problem. If paying them some money stops them from making mayhem? It's probably a wise investment.

This has been happening for years, until the system is changed to give a hand up instead of a handout this will never stop.
When there is a free lunch being offered there will be many people who will think sod my pride i am getting the freebies. You can't really blame them for doing it, the system needs a complete overhaul. My wifes sister is exactly the same. She is in her late 30's and has never had a proper job since leaving school, she got pregnant with the guy she was living with and put father unkown on the birth certificate then claimed housing benefit for 2 rooms in a shared house with the "landlord" no prizes for guessing who the landlord was. She has now since split with him and got someone else and another kid, with another on the way. The new guy owns a house that he rents out to the guy who owns the house they are living in. Basically they are both claiming housing benefit on each others houses. The boyfriend is the same he has only ever done a few odd jobs all his life, he is now over 40. So the kids eldest now 16 has never known the parents to work. What are the chances of the kids getting a job and not claiming benefits? Slim at best i would say, and why should he when he can stay at home all day and play xbox while others go out to work and pay taxes that keeps him from having to work.
The system is a complete disgrace.
