Evening all,

The general cleanliness of my work place is quite poor. Especially the toilets. Recently I have started to use paper towels when touching anything in the toilets. I.E. door handles, taps, flush mechanism, toilet seats, hand dryer buttons etc. And now I don't like to touch door handles or other items i think have been touched by the wash shy filth mungers.

Am I going OTT or am I right to be concerned with the cleanliness of the office(read shabby hut) that I work in.

I agree.

I always try and leave public loos by catching the exit door with my foot as someone enters or leaves to avoid touching the door handle, and start the hand drivers with my elbow ( ditto the taps if I can).

If all else fails I open the exit door at the very bottom of the handle where hopefuly fewer 'walkers not washers' have handled it, and with my little finger (not sure why I do that now).

When I explained the logic to my sandwich student he did it too (although he may just have been trying to creep).

A career of pounding the motorway network as a lorry driver and then a sales rep means I've also developed some curious but stomach preserving habits at public loos.

Such as; Always push door (any door) high in the centre or left, it's the area of least human contact. Number 1 only. Used the toilet? Press flush handle with bit of tissue, then chuck tissue down the pan - same with the taps.

The exit door handle I've still not figured out a clever way though - given that bacteria spreads as it grows, and the half-hearted cleaning attempts of most petrol station attendants probably don't extend as far as the door handles, I now view it as an occupational hazard.

Those who do worry (a lot) about this, do you know anyone who has caught anything from a handle/tap/etc in a work or public environment? I don't.

How would they know?

The vomit doesn't smell like wet boiled ham to tell you that you caught it in a gents toilet.

Yes you are going OTT.

Its like these people who tell you off when you dont wash you hands after taking a piss in a urinal. You unzip your flys, do a piss then zip up again. Now unless either you dont know how to piss and get urine on your hands or you have such a tiny penis that you actually have to hold onto the nib - there is no reason why germs should get on your hands - all you do is hold the shaft which is just like any other bit of skin like on your hands.

listen to this man.

He has the most polished batchelor pad this side of the equator.

I had to walk round with dusters on my feet.

When I took a piss in his toilet he went into some sort of jerky dance routine that lasted exactly 3 hours and 23 minutes. then he checked all the light switches in the house. twice.

Me neither - either have to use my shirt sleeve to cover up the hand, or a tissue (but then you have to get shot of it somewhere). I made the mistake of using my bare hand to open one of the doors today and felt the handle was greasy. UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
