The alternative headline should read something like

'Desperate Biker in last attempt to leave the Isle of Fright'

"Police clocked him at 46 knots in a six-knot zone and said it was the equivalent of a motorist doing 230mph in a 30mph limit."

Huh? No, it's like a boat doing 46 knots in a 6 knot limit.
Why not go the whole hog and say 500mph on the motorway?!?

so he got photographed by a front facing Truvelo camera (from the photo on link) and therefore cannot be formally identified as no registration plate on the front of a bike. He was convicted because he has the same jacket and bike as in the photo? - Surely he could have pleaded mistaken identity? - Got a couple of mates with same bike to buy same jacket/helmet and confuse things a bit?

Not saying he should do...just playing devil's advocate here....

I never get the point of speeding in the 6 knot zone - it's not worth the risk. You can legally go as fast as you like a few hundred yards away in the Solent.
Couldn't agree more, but the simile was ridiculous - let go of the throttle on a PWC at 46knots and you'll be doing 0 kts in about 20 feet. Takes alittle more time to brake from 230mph on the road and the Solent is famous for its lack of pedestrians or pelican crossings! smile

or.... sort of like saying he was doing in excess of the speed of light on the autobahn

This country has become so pedantic about speed...... why is it such a bad thing??
If you do 31 then its speeding ... if you do 71 then its speeding, if you do 21 then its speeding.
Oh and everyone knows it is only speed that kills right??.... For feck sake. How stupid.

The government know that only 5% of fatal road accidents have speed as the cause factor.
Yet they choose to advertise speed as the big killer purely because it is something they can tax.. or fine.

By far the biggest cause factor is driver concentration and misjudgement....... but how do you go about taxing these factors ?? Well, until they find a way .... 'speed' will always be the big bad word to use in all road accidents.

I don't know how fast as in mph, six knots is - or therefore 46 knots.

Anyone?

Thing is, the bloke was given a final warning and then upped his speed (according to the link) so not very bright.

As for the biker ... he's just a tt.

Speed limits on rivers and lakes are silly......... i mean if you are in a boat and there is nothing to hit for miles and miles... then why have to travel at 5 knots?
(Just an example by the way... I don't know the details of this individual case)

Erm, when rivers are concerned it's not about hitting other boats, it's about the damage you do to the bed, the wildlife, the banks etc when you're going too fast.

Is it more damage than the current of the river already does ?
I'm sure the wildlife can take a little wave here and there. Unless you are actually motoring over the poor things :-)
