If you have windscreen cover on your insurance then it should fall under that, so it should only be the £50 excess to pay.

My insurers had a £50 excess if I used their approved supplier or £150 if I used my own, as their supplier couldn't supply and fit a new rear screen they waived the extra excess, and I had a local trimmer fit a new screen with better quality plastic, and a lovely job he did of it too!

Worth considering

Tim

PS: Oh, it was about £250 from memory to supply and restitch the screen, which I think is very reasonable considering the price garages charge per hour these days.

That's interesting.

I'll check that route out. Do windscreens affect no claims bonuses ?

Thanks

windscreen claims (2 in the last 12 months )did not affect my policies...

check with your broker or insurer

(if you are with the tvrcc insurer allianz they will not affect your ncb)

has anybody had any joy replacing a rear screen through insurance though?

I can see how it might work in principle but has anybody actually made a succesful claim

The rear screen on my tam has a small split

Hmmm, claim on insurance, pay the extra excess to go to a non approved installer and get a whole new hood from David H?

Have a chat with D&C Trim. They are ex TVR Trim Guys. I think they are moving into the old TVR Factory to be with Surface and Design. I met them at the BNG and are very helpful and enthusiastic chaps. Email D_C_trim@hotmail.co.uk.

Hope this helps.

I have a customer near Cardiff, I think they were called BAS or something like that.

They make all sorts of car hoods, even BMW stuff, I've also seen them retrimming e-type jags etc.

I'll try and dig out the details for you, to see if they can help

Prob is Lazy if the stitching has gone on the rear screen chances are all of it's about to go weeping Happened to mine and as soon as you pulled anywhere it started to tear like rice paper. The David H ones are good, fitted mine last winter.

There's an article on how to do it on TGP.

Yeah, the stitching seems weak. Weak enough that hardly any pressure on the window resulted in it going through and the stitching coming away.

Why is it that there's always something to fork out for ? redface It's as if the car waits for you to have no more money left and then launches an attack on you with some totally unforeseen issue. frownbiggrin

My gf put her hand through mine in a strop... Fortunately I'd had it happen to me too on the other side, otherwise she'd have been my ex gf hehe

Yep, no problem at all.

It's a WINDSCREEN and comes under that part of the policy, as do side windows.

Done it several times.
