A load of kerfuffle about getting children 'online'. Sounds brilliant, but the ultimate question has to be: "Why?"

As far as I can see, there's only really about 20 websites worth going to online, and 17 of them are porn sites. In all seriousness, has anyone questioned the benefits of hooking up kids to the web? I know that most schools are going hell-for-leather to provide superb IT facilities; why is the taxpayer forking out to provide it at home for the little darlings as well?

Because he's been told it's trendy. I doubt he's has ever used the internet - he has people to do it for him.

I'd have thought that numeracy and literacy were a BIT more important than 'how to surf', and unless they surf PH when the spelling police are on duty, they certainly won't learn that!

You want to know that for a few years poor kids have also had free PC's or interest free purchasing financed via schools?

Or maybe that more than a few local authorities are planning to 'cloud' areas with wifi to allow access for kids that get free laptops?

Intended to make internet connectivity available to the youth of the Third World. For free.

A perfect opportunity for Gordon.

All he has to do is make Britain into part of the Third World.

His only worry is that he might have overshot the mark, and punted us straight into the Fourth World.

Don't let the poor, have access to computers! where will it all end?

Next thing you know, 'ordinary' folks with a mortgage, will be moving in next door. I'm off to tell the wife!

Hmm, give poor people free PC's and internet access, allow online voting and rig the website link in said free computers. Increase turnout and guarantee votes. Not that I believe in conspiracies like that of course.

This flaming country is great! Add more to the woes of us mere mortals by giving chavvy kids access to our safe haven.

Before we know it we'll have Billy Whizz on here talking about his drifts in his Corsa...oh we do already? bks!

But where do you draw the line? What makes the recipient of ANY funding worth that?

Do you have a mortgage? So do, 'poor' folks, so do, 'chavs'. My taxes support ALL of you.
