Rubbish !!

Your fears will be realised. The bar is effectively a long corridor around part of the building and you are allocated a table or seats looking out... whilst the view is good, thats all there is.

Dont try and leave your seat or the nazi-staff will drag you back hehe

Go there once, but dont bother again !!

Bang on.

Awful place.

Get a nice table in Royal Exchange instead.

Been a few times, it's good for foreign clients who've never been to London before.

Just go for the view, which is fantastic, there's no atmosphere in the bar.

There will be orange people dressed to the nines.

Go for one hour, tops. Then go somewhere decent afterwards.

Went once, never again. Do they still make you go through metal detectors and empty your pockets?

HAHAAH not quite as bad as that, she is an artist and loves great views... It was perfectly timed as the sun was setting.... Can't think of a better view in the city to be honest

Are you looking specifically for a City venue? It can be quite flat on a Friday evening. If Harman is to be believed we all leave early for our vast Gloucestershire estates.
We are staying at The Berkley in Knightbridge, just looking for something a little different for a couple of hours.

Coq d'Argent at Bank Station. Great views from the roof-garden/terrace, relaxed atmosphere, and top food. None of the chav-factor of 'exclusive' Central London bars, with plenty of wow-factor.
Highly recommended. (Great fish too)

Nail on head.

Despite all of that, got to be done once.

There's a bar at the top of the Gherkin too but i think that's a corporate one, not for Joe Public to wander in / book. (May be wrong though)

Agree about Vertigo - it's a rip and unless you get a seat on the West side (first set of seats on the way in) you can't see much interesting.

If you want relaxed there's Corney and Barrow in Fleet Place (outside my old office) which has a good outside space if the weather in nice. The Devonshire Terrace in Devonshire Square (3 mins walk from Liverpool Street) which is a new bar and restarant which is quite nice and part of the square is now covered over.

PM me if you want more ideas.

Agreed, the bar/garden area is far from intimate, but they hardly ever let it get too packed (the female 'bouncer' type downstairs petrifies me). However, there are a few private tables to sit and eat afterwards. The place has never yet failed to impress a date, so that certainly says something (if not only about the standard of females which I pursue).
