Morning all. I'm looking for about a dozen railway sleepers for a large decking project on the front of my log cabin. I want to use the old contaminated type which has now been banned due to their creosote content as they are supposed to be cheaper. They are going on padstones so they shouldnt drain into the soil and will be covered.

My local garden centre has them but they want £50 a pair plus £20 each delivery and at that price I could get almost new hardwood ones made.

Does anyone know a company (probably ex rail) that could deliver to Heathrow area at a reasonable rate and does not want the earth for them? My friends' garden has a huge slope so he bought 50 sleepers to make the tier-work. Back then he paid £300 delivered for the lot from a railway company that had been told to get rid so I am hoping I could find similar.

Any pointers? TIA smile

Thanks Jaz but have found nothning so far. That is the ballpark I am prepared to pay. If I hired a 7.5tonner it would still cost me over £100 for a days delivery frown

Try Travis Perkins. My local one had masses of them recently, at very good prices.

You really want an impact driver for driving screws into hardwood sleepers, will be much, much quicker than a drill/driver (coming from my brother, a professional boat builder, uses them all the time)

Try this for example

You're miles away but there is a disused line about a mile from me that has dozens of them lying in-situ.

I'd suggest looking on Google maps, finding an old line, and going hunting. There are loads around.

Nah, "disused" suggests "old and worn out". You need new ones, from a line that's being used. How far is the OP from Clapham?
