After lots of hassle trying to fit the 285 cam, I remember I hadn’t checked the main bearings on the engine, sure enough took the caps off the find the bearing through to the cooper on all three and the crank in need of a grind. Need the mini running ASAP as the petrol cost running the Griff are getting a bit silly. Spent a few hours getting another engine running in that was in my clubman, then took it out and started fitting it to my other car, the engine isn’t in very good condition but hopefully will last long enough for me to rebuild the other one.
I have a spare crank which is better so will fit that with new bearings, not sure if I should do the rings as well or just bite the bullet and get it bored out to 1380.
Still hopefully will be running for Castle Combe, even if it is only standard.

Well yes, very annoying that after a couple of weeks off the road all I done it fit an engine that worse than I had already.
The only problem with getting it bored is that I’ve had the head machined to fit the 1275, not sure it’ll work with a 1380, suppose I better ring bill and see what the options are.
How much more do you have to do on yours?

You should be able to leave the disc where it is.
Hoping I can get this other engine running tonight, didn’t do to badly yesterday only did 6 hours on it but managed to get the engine out, flywheel changed then back in, only have a few more jobs to do.
Other half did help a lot yesterday, she seemed to enjoy hot wiring the clubman as I couldn’t find the keys

All the suspension bits are now on and attached to the car.
Came across a few things though. The spring collars werent fixed so I have just tightened them up equal on either side to the first point where there was friction. Then when the shocks and springs were originally fitted on the lower of the two settings the car was literally sat on the bump stops so have had to put them back to normal ride height.
Its entertaining seeing it level now as the original cones were somewhat out of shape and a knuckle had gone on one side so it sits a lot better on the drive now. The thing is though on short test drives going over speed bumps the ride is very harsh, I literally have to crawl over them and as I have no frame of reference with regards to the ride on coil overs I think this is going to be tough to fix.
Didnt manage to get chance to do that flange last night because of the weather. Hopeful for this evening though but I am very time limited.

I havent fiddled about with them much as I didnt really want to add more variables.

Not sure what the gaz adjust like, probably best to back them all the way off then start winding then up until you're happy, sometimes with spax you can run with them backed right off.
Think you may have been right about the subframe mounts not being in place properly on the other thread, that or the bolt was cross threaded.

Putting them all the way soft and then adjusting would indeed be the sensible way
They are halfway at the moment and I thought this would be alright but it seems not. Do they require a settling period or is it as easy as arriving at track and turning them right down for maximum ?
One thing thats concerning me though is that the bolts that hold the upper bracket to the bulkhead(?) look awfully small (original fitment, no original stress) and theres a lot of weight on them...

Do the new brackets not have extra mounting holes to attach them to the body?
The original bolts would have had a fair load on them as they hold the shock but not the whole weight of the car all the time. Would assume they’d be ok or the brackets would be designed to take more bolts to spread the load.
