Did anyone see Dianne Abbott on 'This Week' tonight in which she said 'my understanding is that defeat in Glenrothes will result in a cabinet led leadership challenge'.

So that's when Gordon will be gone - you heard it here second!

They're not exactly playing lead and best supporting role these two. Strange; I thought the "sweaties" looked after each other. wink

If Diane Abbott is a Scot, then I'm a Dutchman.

I am campaigning for one of the candidates on Saturday!

The Labour guy is not from the constituency, he is from Gordon's constituency.

Who is going to win it? Lib Dems possibly, I am not going to throw in the towel if we lose, I'll become the party's candidate, I am local and I appeal to voters.

I doubt it, TBH. There's still noone in Labour who could win the next election, and Gordon will be pushed when Labour lose, anyway, so any wannabe opposition leaders just need to sit back and wait without shouldering any of the blame for Labours defeat.

Interestingly, Broon has already intervened whilst looking at the bigger constitutional issue- trying and utterly failing to be the 'man' for all seasons:

Labour have blown it but there are still rogue elements of the Glenrothes constituency that always say

"I'll be voting for Labour, I've voted for them aw ma life!" These are the people that need to be broken! The SNP are a viable option, until you see Peter.

Mixed feelings about that one. I mean, "HBOS HQ: "we would like to keep our HQ jobs, please"" isnt really a shocker. And the BoS building and bank are pretty iconic. Plus the whole printing money thing. It's a big cultural thing for sure, given thhir history.

At the same time- it'd be outrage-galore if Lloyds started closing its own branches and keeping HBOS one's open, which is where I imagine the bulk of jobs will go. I wonder about the call centres- they've (HBOS)one in Fife thats' a pretty decent employer. Whatever they do, though, I imagine it will have to be done quickly. I doubt competition law will be suspended if they try to consolidate too much later on.

You can garuantee that the press will treat it in as fair and balanced a manner possible, though.

yes

Who from the Cabinet will resign first?

My monies on either Purnell or Hutton. I reckon D. Miliband will keep his powder dry.

anybody see campbell on c4 news tonight - he is what is needed for labour - get out there and get stuck in. get tore into these feeble wishy washy tory kunts such as cameron and osborne (actuallty FFS osborne has done diddly squat in his life other than tory party activity). I'd love to see a Malcolm Tucker'esque strategy for getting labour/brown nack on road - wold be predictably hillarious.

but for scotland brown is between a rock and hard place and alex salmond can't believe his luck - so scottish govnt goes forward - tories win generalelection and get maybe two or three scottish mps - then i think we can see where we are headed - whcih is NICE!

The thing is, Labour have given up talking to the country, they are now simply squabbling amongst themselves.

In that respect, they are in a parallel situation to the Major government in the mid-90's.

It must be tough in nu labia right now, rotting on the seabed while looking up enviously at the libdims merely dead in the water.

"get out there and get stuck in" - to the jobs section presumably.

I think that if Scotland ever secedes from the Union (which I don't think it will), the country will be Europe's bh with bells on.

England and Wales, on the other hand, will have more money to spend.

I don't think he will survive conference.
His cabinet meetings now are just an embarassment.
All the ministers have their faces in their hands.
Recent opinion polls show labour as dead and buried, under his leadership.
He is deeply unpopular within the party for his Stalinist ways.
The press now scent blood and are going for him big style.
And the country cannot go on with zero political leadership.

Currently he is concentrating on micro managing the issue of the day. (My civil servant friend got caught up in one of these.) But he has lost all sight of the broader picture and is not steering the country in any worthwhile way.

As they used to say about George Brown: "Don't say brown, say useless."

btw My friend was abroad with his minister. Gordon was ringing said minister continuously on his mobile phone from 5AM in the morning UK time. Literally every hour. You just can't manage anything like that.

If Diane Abbott knows anything other than how to get her kids into private school then I'd be amazed.

Yeah. But would that be a bad thing to be?
