I was about to spend 12k on a new van to replace my 3 year old Connect. It was going to be financed over 3 years as before but I think I'll keep it a little longer now.

Anyone else feeling uneasy about large purchases at the moment?

When you say yet, you mean in the last 3 months?

Yes but on smaller stuff that all adds up.

I'm tempted to buy a car at the end of the year as there are some really good deals around.

On the contrary, the last six months have been the most expensive of my life.

Been much more careful the last few months shopping at Lidl\Tesco etc rather than Waitrose. At the moment I'm concentrating on getting any non mortgage borrowing (read car loans!!) paid off as I'm in IT contractor in the Investment banking arena. Just hoping I can get through until March so that is done, and then I should be able to ride out any hard times ahead.

Yeah, by one husband, gonna save me a fortune biggrin

On a serious note not yet, but I did have the energy sales man door knocking this morning. I was still in what passes for jammies. I don't know who was more excited.

I think it's not too far off though, all of my insurances etc are all due soon and will probably be sky high so will have to start looking at things like that.

Just being careful this year, if I can't afford to pay cash, I can't afford to pay anything!

No, quite the opposite actually. Financially I'm in a much better position than 12months ago, than 6months even, pretty much paid off all my debts, or at least am in a position to do so. For me the st hit the fan 18months ago, I lost everything that wasnt bolted down, and I've been pulling myself out of the doo doo ever since.

Iain

Nope.
I'll carry on spending exactly what I have.
In fact, recently I've been spending more.
If people carry on about a 'credit crunch', recession will be with us before you can say 'financed BMW'. wink

I'm now using Lidls, not going out quite as much but as a contractor that hasn't worked for six months that's to be expected. Things I really want still get bought and I'll not start to worry for another six months or so.

I've cut back on the amount of cakes and toast I was eating every afternoon when I got home from work. I have saved my wife at least £2.20p each week off the shopping bill and I've lost a stone in weight.
