....and then a sunny day comes along and you get your chance and you remeber why you bought it in the first place.

This happened me last night I set out with the sun starting its climb down from the sky, I let it warm up for 10-15mins and then I started to press on, within 5 mins I could actually feel my heart pounding in my chest at the simple joy of driving. The smooth, twisting road was virtually empty and anything I did come across was quickly dispatched. For that hour last night I felt like all was right with the world, credit crunch, fuel prices etc... all melted away and for an hour I was free.

Thats what the Lotus Elise gives you, a sense of hope that in an overly pc world, where the motorist is often persecuted, some people still understand you and hold your belief that cars can still be fun rather than just transport. It was a magical moment.

Just wanted to share biggrin

I had a similar experience after driving the wife's Freeloader for a couple of weeks.

Recently, I'd started to think that maybe my steering rack was on the way out as the Elise just didn't feel as direct as it used to. When checked however, nothing was wrong.

2 weeks in the LR though and the Elise feels sharp like a razor again.

Mines been sat in the garage for the last week, looking forward to a bit of a run down to Castle Combe on Saturday to watch the rally day there.

Spent a few days driving my parents Forester and going between that and the Elise is comical.

I have a Toyota powered elise S as a courtesy car just now, two weeks down, another week to go at least and I'm itching to get back in the 160.

Bored earlier this evening, I thought I'd go for a blast, half out of my seat I seen the S parked outside and sat back down again. Nice daily driver, but it's just missing something for me. Still, could be worse.

It's a real pain in the arse living 20 minutes away from the highland fault, everything north of me is very quiet country roads, sweeping A roads, twisty mountain roads, loch skirting roads, challenging roads, fast straight roads, tree covered roads, very camera free roads, uncongested roads and so on. Bloody nightmare having a car that loves to do them all.

Mine is back!
Picked it up a few moments ago. The "new" westover did a superb job.

It was utter joy driving home - I am surprised I came home. As I came down my road, I couldnt resist and blipped it a little, there are some builders working next door and as I reversed into the garage they crowded round and told me how great that sounded and what an amazing car! I am over the moon.

The meeting I rushed home for has just been cancelled. [mumble]

oh well tonight will be clear enough to have the roof off and cool enough to be atmospheric and to get that lovely exhaust note reflected round the damp air. The cool wet air will make her go like a rocket so I will go out later.....

Ahh yes.

The sun finally came back out yesterday so i was in upper weardale last night for a long blast.

50 or so miles, and hardly saw another car. Just sheep, several of which were dead!eek wouldn't want to hit one of those in the elise!

I must say it gets a bit scary trying to push on accross the moors in fading light. Those sheep!

Blissful, but scary.

Fingers crossed for a sunny weekend. Enjoy it folks, it may be the last until April!

Put the hard top on a few weeks back, took it off this aft for a blast
across the A57 Snake Pass.

Rare event this year.

Did you see the bds with the camera in the green van? I did (don't know whether I saw them soon enough though).
