Hi all. I was just wondering what would be the typical resolution required to get a photo printed at a decent quality on an A3 piece of paper. Alternatively, my camera is a Canon G9. What would be the largest picture I should consider printing? I was thinking of putting a few of my favourites on the wall and alternating them as I take more so that I get a bit more mileage out of them. smile

Thanks for that. I've also found this, which might be useful too.

depends on the printer and the quality of the photo.

on my espson R2400 I either print at 180dpi or 360dpi

I have a 30" x 20" canvas print on my wall taken with a 6Mp D70. OK it's not crispy sharp, and the canvas texture softens it as well, but it works because it's an interesting landscape and when it's on the wall, you don't usually go up and squint at it from 6" away!

I would get it printed by photobox or a similar company so I assume they will be reasonably good.

I like the idea of canvas but it seems a bit expensive, but as you say, it would help hide resolution issues though I suppose.

As this comes up every now and then, I've written a Knol on the subject.

I'd be grateful for any feedback:

No feedback? I had hoped that the write up would be of some use to someone?

It's the most useful of the articles up here I would say. My only critisism is of the ambiguity of this quote:

"An image of twice the megapixel count doesn't print out at twice the size"

I would have said that this is could be interpreted as true because the image has twice the area as it did previously, hence being twice the size. I've given it a rating of 5 though as it is very good. smile
