Just out of curiosity does anyone know who much I could possibly make if I was to sell my car (5ltr Chim) for scrap or sell as individual parts.

It is not something I’m planning. Just curiosity.

More than you would get by selling it in one piece. That's how specialist breakers make a living.

Define scrap.

As a list of parts see above.

If you're talking about weighing it in its about £400 for a steel eurobox as a TVR is mostly fibreglass it's probably worth £100 at most to a scrapper. biggrin

But it may take some considerable time to flog all of the bits and you will still have the problem of storage and security in between. Possibly with a car you can't move if the engine or gear box sells first.

Let me know who pays that kind of money and i will let my mate know. Most scrappys are paying a £100 per ton.My mate scrapped two 432 hulls last week.so £400 for a euro box, sounds like deal of the century to me.hehe

I was going off the fact I sold my Peugeout 406 recently for just over £200 so I was assuming going direct to a scrapper would net you more.
So that would mean a weighed in TVR would be about £20 then? hehe

A scrap TVR will nearly always be worth more than a eurobox! As pointed out at the beginning of the thread, scrapyards know the value of TVR parts!

The estorils would probably make more than you average euro tin box for scrap at the moment. Sell the wheels, buy a set of crappy ripspeed rims that fit and keep the car !! Enjoy smile
obviously i'm being as hypothetical as the original post, a chimp on ripspeed chav rims just wouldn't be right

and why am i still up at this time on a school night ?? oh and where's the rest of that bottle of red gone ?? must be time to open another !! oh **** work starts in 7 hours frown

Scrap metal is around £100 per metric ton from Morley Waste Traders in Yorkshire. It's fallen this past couple of weeks by approximately 50%. And that's from a scrap metal merchant, who monitor the steel prices live on screen in the weigh bridge office! I kid you not.

Wow, looks like I was lucky then... didn't seem it at the time for a perfectly decent running car that no one was interested in buying to run.

I'm glad it's so low. I've weighed two shells in these past couple or three months, and I could have cried at what I've seen going to the crusher on the back of Transit pick ups. Nice Jags. Three of 'em actually. One, a 'K' plate XJ was in lovely condition. A 'T' plate Cherokee, again in nice looking condition. I can't go on because I'd cry. Just so many nice older motors crushed for the desperation of a few quid more.

Careful
The money you get for the steel stuff will probably all go on landfilling the plastic stuff.
My garage was broken into ant they stole all my motorcycles..leaving the none metal stuff.

I had to hire a van to tipp the rest, they turned me away for not having a permit!
If anyone finds a Kawasaki Z900 in purple Z!B clours with White 3-spoke wheels in the scrappy, let me know.
I suspect by now its been turned into a tin open though....

At least they wont steal your TVR to weigh it in!!
