I have a 1997 Chimaera and am thinking of having it re-sprayed in its

You don't say where you are in the country but I'd recommend a call to Surface and Design in Blackpool. Ex factory guys and spot on, not the cheapest but the quality of the work is second to none.> original colour - Rosso Pearl. As well as stone chips, there is some fading

IS that Matt???
A lot depends how much preparation they do. How much rubbing down etc. S&D are the TVR guys who made your car and they use the factory spray booths in Bristol Avenue, so they do know what they are doing...not all will prepare/spray GRP correctly. I had a Chim sprayed at Gorners and it was rubbish, inside the doors not done or inside the engine bay (in fact anywhere where it would be difficult to do). I've seen a number of cars they've done and they are all quality jobs, in fact the cars won a number of concourse events!!!

I got a bit of a shock on a re-spray price today...I knew it was about £2-2.5k for a Tuscan, but didn't realise that didn't include paint...it takes 4.5 litres to do a Tuscan and Red Glow at £600/litre...Oh dear....it is dear...
Editted...I got the price wrong... A LOT cheaper, so the cars booked in now at Surface & Design

Hi TVRPearl,
I have a Griffith in Rosso Pearl which is going into Surface and Design very shortly for a full respray, and to fix some small damage to the rear quarter. They are to respray it in the new version of rosso pearl that will not fade, (as mine has done as well) and I have to say that I have only ever heard good things, and they have been really helpful so far!
I live in NE Scotland, which always makes these things more of a gamble as it is hard to nip in and check on progress during the work, maybe easier for you?
Hope this helps

The best total respray I've seen was done by "Option 1" on a solid red car.... originally Rosso Pearl but owner wanted red......
When I say good I mean really good. So good in fact I'm considering them for my respray (winter hopefully funds permitting)..... wasn't cheap though £3-3.5k IIRC

That's what the trick paints cost I believe.
I've seen some horrendous prices in the past for the flip paints, then found this:http://www.flippaint.co.uk/home.htm
Maybe worth a look for anyone interested, personally not my thing.

it does not cost ££600 a litre and will take around 5 litres of thinned paint to do, so that means 3-3.5 litres max. not got a price yet, will let you know when i do.

Seems a choice between Surface and Design and Option 1 for the respray work.
Cost of nightfire red aside, that's still bloody expensive painting in my opinion. My Griff, starmist blue, is costing nowhere near those figures to full paint. In fact, I'm still not decided to change to moonraker black, with perhaps some holographic flake or similar. If I do, it means painting door backs and underside of boot lid too. Yes I'm in the motor trade, and my mate is a fantastic painter with a very very high reputation in the specialist paint/car arena with his own bodyshop, but I'm looking at around a grand, and my mate will make profit on that no problem!Smacks to me of TVR (or similar marque) = they must have deep pockets!
Hi rosso pearl was made up with 80% of an ink based tinter and so faded in the sun. Redglow pearl has only 20% of the same ink based tinter and so is less likely to fade it is still available in solvet base but as soon as the tinters run out it will go to a factory mix and will double in price it will also come ready for use. This means 20% of the paint will be water I work that out to be 50 Pence a gram 100 pounds sterling per litre FOR WATER
This has already happened with TVR 090 and TVR 075 [factory mixed only]As some of you will know all the above colours are RM paint they and they alone controle the cost of it but it would seem some of there stockists can offer a cheaper price than others leaving some factors hopping mad.
So if you are having it resprayed do your self a favor change the colour
