Had a new carpet fitted last week so I needed to move the telly. However I think I've reconnected it all wrong as the picture is slightly wrong and I get a really loud BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP and a funny picture when I turn it off.

Telly has two SCART sockets, DVD has one, Sky Plus has two, and the VCR has two. What should go where?

Any help REALLY appreciated as I just had my shoulder plated back together yesterday so will be doing a fair bit of telly vegging over the next few weeks!

I'll have a go but it's a while since I used scarts, or had a vcr.

Connect the device you use the most directly to the tv, assuming it's your sky box, I'd go scart from sky box to tv, other scart from sky box to vcr. Then scart from vcr to dvd and dvd to tv.

Make sure your scarts are pushed in all the way and that you haven't bent any of the pins.

Does TV still act odd with nothing connected?

As your DVD only has one it can only mean it is an output, so i am guessing it is a regular player and doesn't have a record function. So this makes it all a lot easier.

Connect the Sky box to the TV it should say TV on one socket and VCR on another, obviously use TV. Then connect the DVD with another lead to your TV. Thats it, simple.

Is it a CRT? If it is I think you're buggered it. SCART connection problem probably wouldn't cause those symptoms.

Thanks all...shoulder is too sore to even consider pulling TV around but I will get the better half to have a go at it tonight.

All works just fine, it's just the annoying BOOOOOOOOP when I turn it off...sounds like a ferry leaving port!

Too mundane to start a thread on its own, but while people who know about scart are here:

Is it possible to but a scart adaptor to enoable you to use more than one appliance throught the same scart socket?

Thought not.

Assuming it's a CRT, it sounds like its degaussing itself. When you reconnected everything, did you put your HiFi speakers right next to the telly?

That one will work, but this one is better wink

This one passes RGB on all inputs, t'other one doesn't as far as I know.

And if your devices have two sockets you can "daisy chain" them.

Nice one.
Cheers
How do you switch between them?
From the look of that you have to do it manually on the adaptor itself- which renders it irrelevant because the whole point of one is to avoid me having to reach behind the tele to swap the scarts in the socket.

Will they not auto detect when you turn the appliance on?
You can get autodetect ones, but at that price point they won't be RGB on all inputs.

Something like this should be, but I've not used one, so signal quality could be crap.
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=46677

£25 v £10 though, how much do you want to spend to sit on your arse? wink

The £10 one has virtually no signal degradation and it's the one all gamers with multiple RGB out consoles used to use back in the day, the autochange ones all had ghosting problems etc... at the time, but this was 5 years ago at least! The newer autodetect jobbies could be ok, depends how fussy you are.
