Hi all, been tasked with writing job descriptions for a new department, which is fine until I find a "Head of Strategic Marketing" JD - anybody have a template that I could use as a starting point - this wishy washy marketing stuff is lost on me!

Help appreciated!

Cheers

Corporate culture never ceases to amaze me. How are you supposed to write a job description about a job you don't know about? Some prospective and possibly highly experienced Strategic Marketing bod will be reading your description...

Well I guess you could start with 'Working as part of a small and highly motivated team, this dynamic self-starting individual will need...'

Look for another job description that's not total garbage on the interweb?

Ask the bloke who's doing the job?

Start with definition of participation strategy - where you compete, and against whom. Segmentation, targeting, route to market.

Then product or service strategy - what you compete with. NPD, innovation, etc.

Then product lifecycle.

Then communications and promotions.

Then long lunches.

Easy. Need someone to do it?

Absolutely. What position are you (OP) in? Are you exepcted to manage this person? Are you in overall control of the team? If its either of those, you should be asking yourself why you need that person in your team if you have no idea what they do.
