Remember these?, friend of mine who now resides in Sydney Oz, was going through his old suit and found this.

Back in the 60's this was a run ashore, my first pay packet was 4 quid a week, scrumpy (A pint of rough cider - and I mean rough) was 1s 0d (1 shilling) , so 10 bob being 50p, and 1s 0d being 5p a pint, it was great.............rotate

Wrong,
John Fforde was chief cashier from 1966 to 1970, long after demob. suits.

Well I'll tell you something else, when I were a small boy, I was sent down to the Co-Op Butcher shop on a Saturday, my instructions was to ask for "A joint of beef for four people for about 10 bob".............

BTW this is my mates original email:-

While on the subject of shillings ten, and how far they went I must tell you the following. When preparing to emigrate I had a clear out of my wardrobe. In there was an old blue civilian suit that I hadn't worn for "a considerable time." I checked the pockets before binning it and found the 10 bob note carelessly tucked into the top pocket, obviously the change from a run ashore and long forgotten. I was mortified to think that I had wasted such a large amount of cash, which was by this time no longer legal tender. Cos some lousy tt had sent us decimal. I have subsequently kept it as a souvenir of the "Good old Days" Note even the queen looks a bit younger!

I will ask him when he emigrated. (To Oz that was).

I found a ten bob note on the side of the road. It was 1960 something and I was an honest kid. I took it to the village police station and handed it in. angel

Two weeks later a PC called at our house with a 2/6 reward from the person that lost the note!!!

Those were the days cloud9

Paddy says to the bartender

"Can you change an 18 pound note"

Bartender says

"Oh sure, 2 nines, or 3 sixs?"

BTW just hope our readers under stand your reference to a 9 bob note, whistle
