Ok, my alarm works fine, it just doesn't unlock the car. I checked the battery, fine, I checked the central door locking fuse, also fine. I can hear the electric motor locking the door when I use the alarm, it just has no interest in unlocking the flipping thing.

Any ideas on how to sort this or even just how to get into the car (without smashing a window) would be much appreciated. It's an 06 Elise sportsracer (IIIR).

Have you or someone else turned the lock with the key ie put the deadlocks on?? One of my mates did something similar to mine the other week and i had to mess about with the handle and door loccking mechanism at the dsame tine (you need long arms) to get the sequence back to where it should be.
That probably sounds very confusing but it is a difficult one for me to explain, Paul at CN talked me through it over the phone and it took 10 seconds to rectify.

PS
It was when i had my 06 SR.

Hi,
I suspect the central locking also doesn't unlock of the console switch either.
Your fault will be the locking module under the dash.

under the dash, being inside the car, is precisely where I can't get to!

I fiddled around with the manual door lock and tried a few permutations but couldn't coax the thing into working. Perhaps I'll have another go later today but it does feel a bit like stabbing in the dark as it were.

For those much more knowledgeable about the workings of the car than me, how could it be possible that I can hear the electric motor trying to lock the car but make no effort whatsoever to unlock the car? I imagine it was on a relay that was only working in one direction. Is this even possible?

The CDL controll module is beneath the dash inside the car. It is bolted down on the far right side. the dash will need to come out to remove it.
this is a common fault with the CDL. It always locks but will not unlock.

So that means smashing a window then does it?

Coat hangar time first maybe.

Not quite that severe.

If you use a plastic wedge, you can pull the glass outward quite a bit without it smashing.
When you have a gap, you can then use long nose pliers to pull the button up on the top of the door.

I have a pair of extra long pliers. you may struggle without them.

I've done this several times and haven't smashed a glass yet.

I'm going to have a go over the weekend. By plastic wedge do you mean like a doorstop and if so where do you put it? At the top of the window presumably to get more leverage?

If this is no good, what about the coat hanger method? Is that down past the rubber seal and hope for the best? I used to be able to do it on my old Capri 2.8 but that's really going back quite a bit!

Any tips much appreciated.
