I never realised how vicious spiders were until I saw this battle. The fly was giving it everything it had to stay alive, the wee shame frown

Clicky each photo for larger versions if you like.

I do get out, honestly hehe

Cheers,

Neil.

I actually feel a bit sorry for that fly. I expect the bite on the schnozz did the damage.

What was the lighting?

not sure if it's poo Duncan, can't sat I've ever seen spider poop before biggrin

Simpo, I always use the mt-24ex with the mp-e65mm. I felt sorry for the fly also, they were battling for a good 5 minutes or so..

edited to say, I also use a couple of gary fong popup diffusers to soften the light. They are not really made for the flash, but work a treat!

There any stacking to those images or they all single exposures? Pretty mad either way!

ah, but are they as vicious as a mad man with a knife when a green insect pops up on to his chopping board while cooking? (sorry - nowhere near the quality of your shots!)

crmcatee, Thanks. It's an excellent lens (if not a bit limited). The maximum distance you can shoot form any object is around 4". Takes a bit of getting used to in the beginning.

VxDuncan, no stacking

cirks, Nice shot biggrin

Admit it, you lobbed the fly in the web just so you could photograph the battle!
