All,

Started a job in March, and, well, basically, its killing me.

I was told in the interview that there would be very little in the way of staying away from home (circa 2-4 nights a month)

Its now either 4 nights per week, or a 900 miles every week, on top of the workload, meaning im effectivly doing somewhere in the region of 60 hourse each week.

Furthermore, I have received no training whatsoever, when it was made perfectly clear that all training would be given- I also have a boss that tells me he has gone through one item with me ten times, wherein in actually once. I am getting more and more stresses about the whole situation, to the point that i cannot cope with what is going on there.

Does anyone have any advise/ideas. It would be wonderful to say poke it up your arse, but of course have the usual bills and mortgage to pay.

Oh, and thanks in advance for everyone that says I should just get on with it, problem is it has got to the stage where that is not really an option- i am looking for alternative work now, but the stress is getting to me no end.

Thanks in advance

Swilly

Go to your boss and tell him exactly what you have just posted.

And look for another job, but in the meantime suck it up until you get the flock out of there.

With one caveat. Start to keep a diary. Write in all you can remember about your interview, training and how things have developed since then. Trust me, if it goes wrong you'll be glad you did.

I've been been there - I lasted 2 and a half months - I hated it within a month and they hated me, no training given and my skillset wasn't what they expected (I'm an expert in one thing and they expected me to be an expert in about a dozen others despite me having no experience in these). I had to pass an exam in a tool that I had no experience in with no training given (I passed it too).

My "colleague", who was the biggest arse in the world, told me categorically that he wanted the job I'd been given to have been given to a mate of his. I think that pretty much undermined my position and the "colleague" took every opportunity to do just that.

I didn't finish my probation (mutually agreed termination) and I was glad to be out of there. Walked straight into my old job that I left 15 months previously.

What I should have done is found out what exactly they expected from me and made sure that I either stuck to it or made my skillset clear. I should have approached my manager and aired my grievances, I regret that I didn't but I was too glad to be out to even bother.
