Looking to tap into the great PH font... smile

We're staying at the Glasgow Hilton over the weekend, checking Google Maps, it seems to be in the centre of town - is there anything nearby worth seeing/doing? Is is somewhere that you can park teh car for a couple of days and stroll everywhere..?

Haven't stayed in the City before, we're usually out at the Crowne Plaza. (really good Chinese there though!)

Thanks all smile

I know Glasgow very well; I'll be out in it again on Saturday night. Hilton has parking, so thats no worries. What are your interests?

If you want a few advance pointers, fire away.

Everything is in easy walking distance really for the city centre. The art galleries and stuff like that in the West End you'd probably want to jump on the underground to get to.

As above, what are you interested in doing?

Yeah I know Glasgow quite well too. The hilton is right beside the M8 slip road so you have a 5 minute walk along argyle st to get into town. Be warned that that particular stretch of road can be a bit 'red light' come the weekend.

However you are only 1 street behind the waterfront which they have been renovating - you may get some nice walks along it?

YOu are relatively close to the west end of glasgow where there are tons of nice bars/rest - or you could walk up to sauchihall street (it's about 5-6 streets back and uphill) from where you are and there are a mountain of bars, many of which may be filled with chavs and hen nights.

Get in a taxi and ask for the west end.

Where to start....
1. Transport museum in the west end - Bottom of Byres road the Argyle st end
2. Kelvingrove art gallery and museum - just up the road from the transport museum
3. Huntairan art gallery - Glasgow university grounds west end
4. Gallery of Modern Art - Centre of town just off Buchanan street
5. Shopping (supposedly the best outside london) - Buchanan street, Sauchiehall street, Argyle street (the golden Z)
6. Going out - Merchant city centre of town - lots of REALLY nice places to eat, pubs etc
- Sauchiehall st - more studenty
- West end - lots of really nice places to eat some places a wee bit studenty.

Theres LOADS of stuff to do and see. Also top tip when in Glasgow look UP cos the architecture is amazing.

Not any more really. Hookers have been notably abscent the last year or so, Police crackdown seems to have moved them elsewhere.

I'd suggest if they dont like the students and hen nights atmosphere of Sauchiehall St they head to the Merchant City. West End is students, yaahs and tts who think they're delightfully bohemian. Depends what your tolerance levels are like hehe

The riverfront is still very much a work in progress. Infact, most of the walkways on that side are taped off at the moment with the works going on to build the squiggly bridge.

Well said Emicen. The 'delightful' West end is so far up it's own one these days it's coming out the other end.

Full of the fur coat, no knicks brigade.

A lot of the people who used to drink up that way can now be found in certain establishments around the Sauchiehall way. Leaving the West End and Ashton lane to the yah yah students and the muppets who work in 'meedja' on £17k PA to talk bks to each other (and to pretend the are all directors with SMG)
