Just had my first ever blood test.

I think I have the biggest phobia of needles in the world!

People kept telling me they kill and that if they can't find a vein they prod around for a bit :S.

Tut what was I scared of?!

Bless, I've had enough blood tests in my life. Apparently I'm not a bleeder. I am bleeding fed up of being stuck with needles though despite the fact the only ones that hurt are the dentist ones in your gums.

I didn't get the results back straight away.

I was stting myself. I hate needles.

Mind you I have had a lot of piercings and tattoos but they're a different kettle of fish.

Needles in my mouth don't bother me 1 bit, but I think that might be because I had 10 at once to take 4 teeth out. That was 2 in each corner where the wisdom teeth come through and 2 in the roof of my mouth.

My mate from school passed out everytime we got a jag at school, kinda funny when you were 15.

Found out later he had diabetes. Not the good diabetes the bad one where you have to jag yourself every day, st deal!

I haaaaaaaaate needles and had to face 2 of my biggest fears in the last 3 years...

First off, needles in my mouth, which was caused by some morron throwing a bottle at the table in front of me at college, ended up having a tooth smashed in 3 and both lips busted wide open, needless to say i was fked off!
Spent the next 8 weeks having jabs in my jaw for drilling and work to put in a crown yikes

Fast forward to when i was working in my first F/T job as a maintenance tech, i ended up getting some swarf in my left eye. Headed into A&E and ended up having a specialist putting anasetic eye drops in (weirrrrd feeling that) and picking at the metal and taking it out with a needle.

You can't see the needle but it's damned freaky when you see your eye move and it's not you doing it! eek

No st. Did the eye drops make you sneeze flourescent yellow snot too?

The best bit was when they eventually did laser surgery on me, and I could smell my own eye ball burning. eek

You get used to it, 4x injections a day. Mind you the needle used for blood tests is a much bigger thing than the tiny little things for injecting insulin, and insulin injections don't go straight into the blood stream, so they are pretty easy to do.

BTW, there is no "good" diabetes. Diet and tablet control (type 2) is as hard maybe harder than insulin control (type 1).

When the nurse got the needle out today I nearly fainted then she showed me how much of the needle actually goes into your arm and it was about 5mm if that!

In the last two years, since my MI, I must have had 50 blood tests. Yesterday was the only one that left me with a bruise and I've only felt about half of them.

I had to have a lumbar puncture for meningitis a good few years ago, and was in a teaching hospital. They wanted one of the newbies to have a go, but he couldnt get fluid from my spine properly, so someone else said they'd try it instead.

After the third one I asked them if they were planning on getting a black and decker out as well, so they referred me to an anaesthetist who did a much better job

Do a google images search for dialysis needles. Try them 3 times a week for 4 hours at atime and see how you get on. I used to do my own needles, until I got to the point I was having to rub on topical anasthetic before I could inject the anasthetic which would allow me put the needles in.

(oh if you're squeamish you may not want to look)

Blood test........Not a lot to worry about there. As long as you keep junior doctors away from you it's utterly painless. As for it killing you if it goes wrong....................Where do I start?

It's the test results that you should be worrying about, not the test itself. HTH.
