I was in a hi-fi shop looking to purchase a new projector. After the demo, we came downstairs and the tv's were all on cnn for some reason! Stood spellbound for ages watching events unfold, then drove home and put it on there. Very sureal day frown
Thoughts go out to all who lost on that day

I was mitching off school and watching Harry Potter with my friend. When it ended we put normal tv on and the first plane had crashed...then we saw live the next one flying in. Freaky.

Not here in the USA it isn't, not yet anyway. Another couple of hours...

I remember was on the internet in the Philippines, 9pm in the evening, and the wife called me in to the tv room. I never took much notice, just thought it was a small plane had a minor shunt, then I sat and watched it unfold over the next few hours.

I remember feeling a bit melodramatic and telling my wife things would never be the same again.

There's a couple of channels here in the USA just awash with 9/11 stories this last few days; What happened, Why it happened, What could have happened, What should have happened, Why people think it didn't happen etc etc.

There was an interesting one on dispelling the 9/11 conspiracies, but it spent the first hour just mocking the conspirators, which got kinda boring, but they eventually went through a whole bunch of common conspiracy theories and trounced them.

There was also a fair bit of footage I haven't seen before. I never knew jet fuel actually ran down a lift shaft to the ground floor lobby within minutes of the first jet hitting. yikes

If you watch the documentary 9/11 (I think thats the name...the one with the brothers who were following the NYFD for a documentary when it happened) they were in the lobby when a lift came down and opened to reveal its grisly contents, they didnt actually film it though but you could hear what was going on.
Really an amazing documentary though and worth looking at.

I also watched another doco that was on History Channel last night...9/11: 102 Minutes in history...something like that anyway. This one is just lots of TV and witness footage cut together with no music or commentary, very moving.

I remember when it happened, we were on holiday in Barcelona visiting some friends. They put the TV on for us to see the weather and we saw them talking about the first plane, then the 2nd plane hit live on TV. One of the people we were visiting turned the TV off and left the room...the company he works for had an office there and he often had to visit.

I worked for Liverpool Victoria. I worked in the main head office which is a huge open plan floor with about 500-1000 people doing car insurance quotes etc. It also had red phone stats signs - how many calls happening, how many waiting etc.

As the first report of the plane came in you could hear lots of whispers.

Now LV was very strict about Insurance bods leaving desks during work time. So everyone stayed put.

When it filtered through how bad it was people started to leave their desk to go watch it on tv.

By the time the second plane hit, and just after the floor was pretty much cleared with everyone watching it on tv. It was like a ghost office.

I believe there was no more than 10 calls for the next 3 hours to the whole of LV insurance. They usually got about 3000 an hour.

Had just finished a nightshift at Heathrow, and was looking forward to my first holiday with the then girlfriend, we were planning to fly to San Francisco on the 12th!!Anyway, I was at home on the internet when I heard an aeroplane had hit one of the towers, first thought was it was a small, single engine jobbie. Then a work colleague called me, asking if I'd heard the news and it was he who told me it was a bit more serious than I first thought. Spent the rest of the day with the TV on, trying to find out what was happening with our flight. We eventually flew out on the 16th, the day after flights resumed.

I was at work just sitting enjoying my lunch. It was just after 1pm here when some mention was made on the radio that was on in the background of a plane hitting one of the towers. It seemed like a bloody awful accident at first, and even after the second plane hit it didn't sink-in that it was a terrorist act. I was just sat there wondering how two identical accidents could happen so close to each other and wondering if there was a problem with air traffic control. Sometimes your mind doesn't reason things correctly when they're so extreme. By then we all had the internet on and were looking at the pictures and footage... and then the buildings collapsed. I remember thinking that the world felt like a different place... Like there was the way the world felt before 9/11 and the way the world felt after 9/11, and that the two were very different things.

I was working for a Business Continuity firm at the time, with customers all in the Square Mile and the Wharf. We also had a New York office just over the Hudson Bay (?), and our staff over there got a Grandstand view of the events.

About 25 minutes after the first hit, the Continuity calls started coming in from customers in and around the two towers.

Two things stick my memory.

Our American VP on speaker phone to the CEO in the UK, a Vietnam vet (I believe), literally choking on his tears as he's watching it live across the bay.

Second thing, the sheer number of smaller customers in both towers who invoked their Business Continuity plans - calling in that they would be across with their staff, but who we simply never heard from again, ever. I can't remember the number, but I think two of our smaller brokerage customers simply ceased to exist that morning.

I was stuck in an office with no TV's and limited (read SLOW) internet connection. When we started hearing rumours I called my Dad right away to find out what was happening.

In the middle of the conversation he just went quiet and then quietly said "It's deliberate"... The second plane had just hit while we were talking....

I still remember how my blood just ran cold as he told me. Horrible thing was I got off the phone and relayed what I had just heard and nobody in the office would believe me, it just seemed to sureal to be true. Then our internet started working again and the whole place just went quiet for hours.

I was in the city in our old offices when it happened.

We were soon going to move into canary wharf tower!

Very odd day, we all went home early but it was a real day of sadness. Spent the rest of the evening watching the TV.

I was sat watching Sky news at home when it all unfolded live frown Such an horrific day to watch, I can only imagine how much more horrific it must have been for those involved.

I watch the 9/11 docu on channel 4 last night, and some of the miraculous tales from that day truly touch your heart.

My thoughts will also be will those who were involved today.

I was on work placement at British Airways at the time. Suffice to say that was the last year they took on placement students.

Have sinced worked with traders who were talking to their colleagues in the towers when the planes hit, scary just hearing them recount the experience.

Big hats off to everyone involved in the rescue bow

We were on holiday near Arcachon. My dad phoned me to tell me all about it, he said "son, the world's just gone mad". At first I thought he was winding me up, so we went to the nearby town and watched it all on a small portable tv in some bar.

Sad days frown

i was going into town to buy a Playstation 2.

remember seeing people piled up outside the street around all the tellies in Dixons; must have been hundreds of people, absolutely silent as we watched the second plane fly into the towers. remember my girlfriend asking if it would mean war and would i be called up again.
