Insane Insurance
Discussion
Try MSM insurance.. They may insure 17 year olds but if they do, I dont imagine you'll last long in one of those...You'll get much cheaper insurance in a TVR or a kit car than you would in a sporty hatch - If they insure you. MSM put down a TVR on their kit car policy, based around engine size and power I believe, If not a TVR, try a small engined Kitcar

look for classic insurance with limited mileage policy. try henderson and taylor, i cannot recommend them enough they gave me an awesome qoute, which was 75% cheaper than what i was expecting to pay.
If i was you i would buy a 2nd car as a run around and tell them about that, say you would only use the wedge in the summer and sunny days over a weekend and that your runaround is used the most. limit the mileage to something 5k a year, think about getting a tracker on it to bring the premiuim down and think about joining the tvr club as membership with them reduces premiums a bit too.
at 17 a tvr is a fair bit to handle are you sure you want a sports car like this so soon, what experience do you have of driving rear wheel drive big engined cars.

Good god..a wedge at 17.... You DO have a deathwish!!!
I am 20, drive a reasonably hot hatch and at times that scares the crap out of me....No one would insure me on that until I was 19 unless I paid 3.5k third party only
Imagine a RWD car with no ABS or grip....Lethal unless you really know what you are doing...
I have an M series that I am hoping to get back on the road in about 6 months time. I am struggling to find anyone who will insure me...and im 20....

If you were my boy I would be VERY worried...sorry.
Had I bought any kind of powerful motor at 17 (and I passed my test at 17), I'm pretty certain I wouldn't be alive today.
Insurance companies are not stupid. They base their prices on statistics, and those are not pretty.
In exuberant hands, TVRs are an accident waiting to happen, and it's likely to be a high speed one.

On the other hand, I had a mate who at 17 was on the fleet policy of the family company, and often turned up at school in a 2.8 Capri and a Porsche 3.0sc, he didn't manage to kill himself, and always drove very sensibly, refusing to be drawn into the 1 litre brigade goading on the way home.Had I bought any kind of powerful motor at 17 (and I passed my test at 17), I'm pretty certain I wouldn't be alive today.

I, like you, would have killed myself though.

Hi Duncan, As recommended, Try MSM insurance. I had a 3000M Turbo at 21/22?? with them, mention my name too, they should sort you out at a decent price. If you have a garage, try Hagerty too I have an M series that I am hoping to get back on the road in about 6 months time. I am struggling to find anyone who will insure me...and im 20....

As previously said, buy a run around and use the TVR as a 2nd car. I am sorry to say that all the statistics are against you in that young drivers do have the most "own fault claim" FACT. A TVR is not the most forgiving, it took me 6 months to get to know mine and I have been driving for 26 years. That said, my first car was a Dolly Sprint which I drove on my fathers policy way back in the days when you could!

How about getting a parent/friend to buy & insure it & put yourself on as a named driver.
Insurance companies are wise to that one these days and will still probably quote high.I'd follow the advice given about going for a smaller engined M , S or Tasmin and then work up to the V8.

shout 'braaap' out of my window,
I do that when I'm not drivng the TVR! Don't need to when I am...I'm amazed you can get insured at all! - More about potential damage to other cars / people / houses than damage to you and the car! - Powerful car, poor statistics = v. high premiums. There are very few underwriters, so premiums are fairly similar wherever you go.
As painful as it sounds, join the 1.0 litre brigade for a year, don't do anything silly in it, get a no-claims bonus and try again in a year. - The wait will just make you want it more and it'll feel more special when you do get it.
Good luck whatever you decide..
