I'm thinking £300 - £350, easy to use, not too many buttons, reliable, stupid proof (I've blown the last one I had up twice!) and has to be delivered!

Any suggestions?

Cheers. smile

I've always found washer dryer's to be a voodoo art. In the end I just stick everything in hot wash, press the economy and fast buttons (why wouldn't you?) and it always cleans my clothes.

Saying that it is currently awaiting the bin after spitting a huge bit of concrete out (we're talking paving slab size - apparantly it's a stabilizer)

We have one of these;

http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/442453/HO...

MOH can work it.............just chooses not to!

Just looked at the pic - they've changed the buttons slightly but I'm sure it's still pretty much as easy to use.

I had a Hotpoint and it worked fine for years. Chuck everything in, chuck some powder in and hit go.

As to the meaning of '30 degree delicate acrylics mixed woollens anti-crumple', no idea!!

NB I now have a Siemens WM (I rarely used the dryer part of the Hotpoint preferring to save money and drape everything over the bannisters) and that's much nicer and quieter.

What you really need is one of these:

Unfortunately, they don't fulfill many of your criteria in as far as:

  • They cost a hell of a lot more than £350ish (Opex is especially hair raising)
  • It is virtually impossible to find the "on" button
  • They are certainly not Stupid proof

Which? are rating John Lewis own brand ATM but they haven't been around long enough to have good reliability data.

The thing is the actual weight limits are by a blokes standard pitiful. I mean, 6Kg, what's that? I dunno, how heavy are clothes? They don't feel heavy so I guess I can shove loads in.

I suspect they're often overloaded which is why don't last, but white goods just aren't blokey* so .. er... yeah ... washer dryer...whatever....

  • except fridges of course because of beer.

Most washer/dryers aren't that good, unless you do a lot of washing why not get a decent washer and let the clothes air for 24 hours to dry?

I have an Indesit Moon and it is about as simple as they come.

Washer/dryers are highly inefficient.

However, if you put a zero on the end you'll get a pair of Meille's that will last 25 years, that's washer AND seperate drier. Dead clever too.

I agree with the comments about airing the clothes to dry. My Bosch has a dryer function but I've only used it about twice in the last 12yrs. Clothes dry in no time at all left to their own devices. My Bosch has had everything thrown at it and still keeps going strong. Its at least 12yrs old...and came with the apartment I bought years ago. The ex used to have it on every single night washing horsey paraphenalia. Never misses a beat.

I had one of those - unfortunately I don't any longer, hence the need for a bloke friendly one!

Think the reason I blew up the last one when I lived on my own (CDA fitted) was cos I always overloaded it.irked

That one did come with a five year parts warranty though! smile

Reason I want a drier is cos I only ever seem to wash my clothes when I realise I've ran out of pants or socks! So they need to be dry for the morning! hehe

Nope! My AEG is A/B for efficiency (iirc) - and it's about 5 year old now.

I have an AEG washing machine which I found in a ditch.

One of the bolts securing the spider on the back of the drum had worked loose and knackered its thread and no doubt some prat had told the original owner that it needed a whole new drum so they dumped it. I drilled and tapped it to the next size up and it's been fine for about 17 years now.

To wash clothes I put some clothes in the drum and some soap in the drawer and turn the dial to 2 and wait. I then turn the dial to 2 again and run it through another cycle with no soap because no washing machine is adequately capable of getting all the soap out with just the standard rinse.

To dry clothes I hang them on two bits of cord screwed into the ceiling strung over the bath.
