I've just received my latest Pipeline Card email offering me the chance to review my utility bill with them... i.e. for every switch they'll get a commission of approx £40 to £80! And half a paragraph on how hard 'Ben' is working to get us discounts at the pumps... rolleyes

Was this whole thing a scam to get a huge marketing database together? Sounded like a great idea at the time but has now turned into a bit of a farce?

Good question, I'm starting to feel a bit uneasy about it now.

I don't think it was a scam... i think the right intention was there and the petrol companies closed ranks...

It has perhaps now morphed into something else...

I'm not sure... apart from the first two emails from him which talked about the 'current ongoing discussions' for petrol discounts; everything has been an unrelated money-saving offer of some sort! Car insurance, household utilities, finance, credit cards, etc, etc...

nice idea, poorly thought out, so now it's a huge database of car nuts, worth a fortune

I recieved the email too.

I signed up for it when it first started, I'm sure I was still at uni then so it must be more than three or four years ago.

A thread like this pops up every couple of months when an email goes out.

As people have said, probably started with good intentions but the chap is now cashing in on it.

I didn't sign up, but I presume there is an unsubscribe link. I'd suggest using it and rejoining if anything happens.

Seemed a good idea at the start, now just get the old we are still trying emails but why not use this special discount we have for you.

I wonder if you can get your details removed from the list.

What always got me with the Pipeline card thing was, the guy's name is: Ben Scammell.

I'm sorry, but that just screams Scam!

Wow, only 3 years?!

My mind must be playing tricks on me, I thought I remembered this on various forums from ages ago...nearer the first fuel protests in 2000.

He is real. I met him once...

IIRC, It was started out of good intention but with an aim to him making money from it. As already stated, I assume it didn't get anywhere so now he is just making some from sending you all crap.

He used to live near Reading too I think?

I still get the emails, IIRC he came on here all proud as punch until someone pointed out his sums were all wrong.

Our firm still gets the odd email from them saying the same old thing. I think we have been registered with them since the start.

I signed up several years back, but the e mails have dwindled, no more promises, no more stories of how close they are to cutting a deal with the petrol giants. I thought the whole thing had just been forgotten about.
