Thats why i do the job!!
Discussion
With all the s
te, abuse and crap jobs we deal with (Paramedic) i was reminded tonight as to why i do the job.
57 year old male enjoying him self at a in door go-kart track, stopped racing having a chat to his mates then started to have breathing problems, he then stopped breathing then his heart stopped.
I got there in 5 minutes(hit the gov target) and managed to get his heart going and breathing again all with in about 8 minutes
Thats why i do this job, there is no better feeling than saving someones life

did you check for his wallet on the swift?
Why????? We do as a part of trying to find out who he is,next of kin and any medical problems etc, why do you ask?
His watch then? I trust you removed it 'to check his pulse'

Well done on the life-saving thing btw.

Reminds me of when I used to run events at an outdoor hospitality centre with a really good karting facilty. During a corporate team endurance event, somebody had a heart attack in the paddock. Despite having been trained in first aid etc. I still bottled it and left my (more experienced) colleague to do CPR while I safely stopped the event and made sure ambulance etc was called straight away.

Thankfully my colleague got the guys heart going again and he made a full recovery, but I was appalled at my bad decision making. I Should have helped and increased the probability of a successful resuscitation. God knows how I'd have felt if we'd lost him.
Well done for saving a life.

It's you chaps and similar (i.e. putting lives - not financal gain/reports/bulls
t/etc - first) that have the only truly "worthwhile" jobs IMHO. I wish I was brave enough to do the same. You'd have a drink on me should you ever come to my pub.

I'm a bit confused though, surely you save lives all the time - why is this one so special?
Yep - the girl with the dislocated knee would almost certainly have died from eventual starvation or, more likely, dehydration, had her knee not been relocated and her entire family had ignored her plaintive pleas for "water".In short - I imagine that he means his quick thoughts and reactions saved a life that would otherwise have been lost.
