How do.

Was just sat at work pondering when do you "grow up"? By that I mean settle down with a woman, think having kids is a good idea, sell your P&J to get a family wagon etc?

I'm 24 now, and looking back am way more immature than I was at 16-21, when I was in a few relationships, didn't used to particularly enjoy going out, didn't want a nice car or any "toys".. Now at 24 I have loads of "toys" - a bloody expensive mountain bike, turntables, ps3, car (mk1 golf gti, but will be car-less soon frown ), can't do a weekend without going out... Moving to London too, which I'm sure is going to be awesome!

I admit I don't have a ladyfriend at the moment, but again it's not on my priority list, in fact its far from it!

A pointless thread really but ya!

I'd leave it 20 years or so if I were you.

I don't 'feel' any older than when I was late teens - I still have the same immature banter with my missus and mates.

But the things I do are older - work, pay a mortgage, arrange weddings etc. 25 by the way.

'Settling down' should not mean you turn into a boring arse - the only problem I find is the more spent on shared things like houses, weddings etc the less to fund things I would have if I were single.

Pointless response...

Growing up is what people who did it, and are jealous that you havent yet, will tell you that you need to do !!

Growing up happens on its own, you dont need to do anything about it.....

I'm guessing you have a lot more money now than you did back then?

I'm 27 and have a toy (elise) but I'm actually starting to think like a normal rational human being boxedin and thinking about things like, if I bought an MX5 instead of the elise (which I have a loan for) what impact would the extra cash have on my mortgage/lifestyle. Of course its also lead me to think about the other toys/hobbies I could indulge in, a motorbike for example. Or nice holidays, or even (may God forgive me, investments and things). I guess I'm maturing but still not quite there, give me a few more years. I'm not in any rush wink

Don't worry, you'll get to 29/30.....and go straight back to behaving like you're 21 again. It's a bit like personality snakes and ladders. smile

hehe

That about sums it up.

I still feel like I'm in my early 20's... you stop getting older, just the years carry on passing you by.

I sometimes have to work out how old I am because I forget... and it can only get worse biggrin

In 45 and think I stopped growing up at around 33. Delightfully immature now - it's the only way to be thumbup

That's because 'growing up' is defined by women/society as

- marrying a woman
- buying a house for her
- paying for her to have kids
- being divorced and loosing both then becoming an irrelevant old drone.

Sounds like fun eh?

Well yeah I am financially better off, and I guess more grown up in ways as I'm moving out with friends to a new area.

At the ages of 16-21 I used to save all the time and not do anything!

I am settling but in some ways I am envious of people my age that have their own house and a well paid job but I ask myself the same question over and over again, do these people have the life experiences and education that I have?

I have a beautiful fiancee, that I can't wait to move-in with, I have a car that I am about to sell, I've done the P+J thing and it tried to kill me! I have no job, need to finish my masters and I am potentially terminally ill. I live at home with my parents, I have no driving licence, for at least another 6 months. I live over 400 miles from my fiancee and the "income support" that I'm on isn't enough to get a train to go and see her.
