Got a friend coming over from the US and there are 4 of us meeting up for a weekend in London next Saturday. Most things are covered but not sure where to eat. Thinking of somewhere nice but not in the £100 a head league before you've even bought the wine!!!

Where's good these days?

One of us is veggie so have to make sure there is at least something on the menu for them, even better if we don't end up paying £35 for a £3 salad...

Suzie Wongs on Old Compton Street in Soho.

It's basically an oriental tapas place, food is brilliant with plenty of dishes with their own little twist, try the Duck is Shezchuan and Strawberry sauce, absolutely gorgeous. Also has a really nice cocktail bar as well for afterwards.

Cheers, had been looking at the lastminute site as well.

I have looked at the Oxo option but decided against it, g/f said it would feel odd me going up there with 2 others.

Oh, they all say that the first time, but once they're use to it they'll want to have them over all the time.

Zen.

They do cater for Vegies and Vegans, but it's not obvious from the website, just let them know when you are booking.

Why not a curry? IIRC it's hard to get a decent ruby state side. What about Gaylords....not too expensive and there's always good veggie options in a curry.

I'm not a Londoner but had an absolutely knockout steak at Gaucho's the last time I was there. Top notch, and recommended!

John,

Can't recommend this enough ... great site, great offers, and you get a genuine idea as to what is good and what is not. I've been using it regularly for years - we supped at a Lebanese place last week next Liverpool Street, which was excellent, on the basis of a TT recommendation - but there are many, many others.

What kind of food do you want?

French - Le Poule au Pot (off Sloane Sq)
Japanese - Chisou (off Regent St)
Korean - Ran (Great Marlborough St)
Indian - The Mint Leaf (Mayfair/ St James)

Had nice meals in all of them.

ETA: If you want somewhere lively, try Tamarai on Drury Lane, it's underground and is kind of a restaurant/ cocktail bar/ nightclub, nice food (pan-Asian).

Busaba-eatthai on Store St, if you're not fussed on it being too formal.

Try and get there before 7 as the queues become pretty huge

There are other branches on Wardour St (the busiest) and near Selfridges
