I would love to see Colin McRae in F1. I'm no particular 'fan' of any driver, but when you see raw talent like his you know you're seeing something very special.

The transition wouldn't take long - all that's needed is a team with faith to give him a try. Trouble is there should be 15 teams in F1 to give more drivers a chance, and maybe there would be if Ecclestone shelled out a bit more of the cash.

Alternative for Colin? CART, and then back to Europe.

Colin did a car swap with Martin Brundle as few years back when Martin was driving for Jordan. Lapping Silverstone just 2 seconds a lap slower than Brundle after only 10 laps. He also went very well in a recent Ascar race at Rockingham.

I think you can put any talented racer/driver into any formula and they will do well. MotoGP champ Valentino Rossi aquitted himself well in a Rally Car, as has Wayne Gardner in Aussi V8's. One of the talented, if not the most talented natural racers in the US, Tony Stewart (surely not another relation ) has gone from IRL to Nascar with big success in both.

It can be done, but comes down as you say to seats available and of course cash.

Just a shame that WRC has left such good drivers high and dry - but what if CART finally collapses too? I wish Bernie E. would buy it and put it back on its feet, then at least there'd be a bit more room at the top.

Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon would do very nicely thank you, but no-one could afford them.

I suppose all the Stewarts are related - but in an ultra-distant sort of way. It's the Scottish version of Smith (no offense to worthy Smiths on PH)!

IIRC the Stewarts (Scottish royal dynasty) were from the days of Robert the Bruce, and it was a corruption of Steward.

This was then further corrupted to Stuart when Mary QofS was in France, and they couldn't spell and pronounce it as Stewart.

I don't know how they got to McNab though

Apparently Colin tried the Rizla Suzuki superbike at Silverstone last week, and managed to get on the grass at 150mph...

there's a persistent rumour that he's talking about trying NASCAR. Talking to a fried today, this makes remarkable sense:
- His name is very well known out there, due to the Playstation game, so he would come in as a celebrity.
- He could probably pick up a decent basic wage, and could prbably do quite well (he's certainly not worried about scraping paint)
- He could rake in a fortune in merchandising and marketing rights.
A call to Nigel Mansell for his experiences might be in order.

The entirely bogus character in John Buchan's book.
