going back to my helecopter lessons thread if you passed your test is it as simple as getting a helicopter leaving it in your garden and when you fancy it going for a fly can you fly anywhere apart from airport airspace etc is there a set hight you have to stay can you just go to your friends house and land in his garden ?

Erm, no. Probably.
With planes you need a licence to operate an airfield, although you can run on a 28day licence which enables you to use a field for example for 28 days of the year, as long as you have some kind of agricultural machinery in storage, ie a lawn mower, or something, maybe, I could be wrong, but i'm sure this would or should apply to helicopters too?? Possibly. I really have no idea.
HTH.

in a word, no.J
i suggest you go to www.pprune.com
you need to register but there is a dedicated area for helicopters [called 'rotorheads']. follow the stickies for 'so you want to be a helicopter pilot' and take it from there. forum is useful [its meant for pro pilots but loads of private ones use it too] but search first before asking questions, they're not as tolerant as PH and thats saying something!
No you can't. Well actually you can, but you need permission.
The wonderful 28 day rule sees to that. You need a clear approach and be well away from other people's buildings, roads etc.
If you have a farm or are in the middle of no-where, then build a hangar and just get on with it, if you have neighbours, prepare for war with them!
As for landing in other people's gardens. Unless you recce the site, then no. You need to look for cables, animals, trees, wind direction etc etc. Heli's can land anywhere up to a point, but there are many criteria to making a safe approach and subsequent take off.
You'll be trained in how to deal with off airfield landings, but they can be extremely challenging and there is a lot more to it than just getting in and going for it. All you'll do is kill yourself or write off a really expensive piece of kit if you try that.

Under CAA regulations you must be allowed to correctly spell whatever it is you wish to fly. So that's you buggered

No no no and no*.- It's far more complicated than this and as has already been written depends upon things like planning permission and airspace. If you're serious about flying a helicopter you'll learn all about it in your studies. If you're not, don't bother. It's very, very boring.

PPS If you ARE serious about learning to fly the damn things then before you spend a bean wander into a hangar and ask an engineer about the Jesus nut. If that doesn't put you off then you're dumb enough for helicopters.

You'd need to obey Rule 5 of the Air Navigation Order (exciting stuff). This stipulates that you must be at least 500ft from any person vehicle, vessel, structure or vegetable unless you're landing, taking off or crashing. Other than that you could potentially fly at any height you like outside of controlled airspace (airports and tha').
I should probably know, but I don't, whether you need some sort of permission to have your back garden as a permanent home for the thing.
P.S. Engineers will give you a rather complicated mathematical explanation for how a helicopter flies, but the truth is simple; they are so ugly, the ground repells them. Just look at this moose:

With regard to the ANO, here's a link to it if you want to read it. Honestly, it makes Harry Potter look like a sack of Hippogriff schitt.

Oh, I don't know - they're generally pussycats - I think I managed to make one of them cry once. I'm not proud of it though.
To the OP - should you choose to pass into the Valley of Bile which the Proon can on occasions present, for fook's sake run a spell checker on your posts before pressing the "I'm a cackwit" button. As for the original garden question - if both your (and your mate's) gardens are of sufficient size that the nearest neighbours can't hear you starting your whirling oil-leak of a bankruptcy generator at sparrow fart, then you're fine - because if you don't already have a garden the size of Berkshire, then you probably can't afford to put a helicopter in it....
