CCTV for home security

Friend of mine wants to set up CCTV outside his home after a few burglaries in the area. Just covering his own house, not public areas or anything. Does anyone have any recommendations of equipment or suppliers? The system would need to function 24 hours a day and record from 2 or 3 cameras so night vision and reliable construction are essential! (Not just some Mrs Miggins stuff from Homebase to "see who's at your front door")
