pc driving games

i want a couple of games for the pc one for off roading and one for track or just genral racing

any ideas???

GRId is very arcade like - ie not real - best for that are RACE 07, LFS, i Racing, most of the simbim titles. check out their site - theres a free M3 version from them that will give you a good taste!

Tony, the G25 is £199 new and IMO it's well worth it. There are 'lesser' wheels, but this one seems to be the highest-rated and with good reason. The force-feedback is incredible.

I've not tried iRacing, I'll have to look that one up. I think I prefer GRID over the others so far; perhaps it feels more 'real' with the wheel setup..?

I have the free BMW M3 Challenge from their site (the freebie one posted here many months ago) but I thought it was a bit pants really - not a patch on GRID..

GTR2, Rfactor, Iracing, RBR (For Rally) GTL (classic cars, superb) RACE 07/GTR Evolution.

That is all you should be looking for.

Well the OP did ask about driving games not sims.

However, anyone who has ever been a passenger in a car, let alone driven one would not think of Grid as a sim even with a G25

Agreed. Played about 2 races, and uninstalled.

So many good sims, I dont see why people even bother with the lesser ones. Sure, you might like a 'game', but multiplayer sims are so much fun I don't see what you're gaining by not trying them

I bought mine from scan.co.uk and paid £145, definitely worth hunting for a decent price!
As Funk said, it is the wheel to have. Easily worth what I paid for it!

My apologies for enjoying it. I have no qualms with it as a 'driving experience'; it certainly seems superior to the 'holy grail' that is Gran Turismo.

As it happens, I also have rFactor, Race 07 and LFS to play with yet. Perhaps I'll find those to be even better. I may seek out iRacing, GTR2 and GTL. Why have you 'slashed' Race 07/GTR Evolution - is GTR Evolution an upgrade for Race 07?

Well I just spent a couple of hours thrapping Race 07 and I have to say I'm underwhelmed. The feedback and realism is great, but the game looks a lot more cartoonish than I'd hoped for. It also left me slightly bored, dare I say it?

I think I'll give rFactor and LFS a go a little later on and see what they do for me.

Colin McRae DiRT was crap - the driving simulation wasn't really there and the picture looked all 'glowing' and hazy; not a nice look.

Racing games are all about the racing realism not the flashy graphics. If you buy a racing game because of how it looks then stick with the arcade racers. You'll feel the same about the other simulations.

Have you gone out and bought a load of racing games in one go?

Racing games are all about the racing realism not the flashy graphics. If you buy a racing game because of how it looks then stick with the arcade racers. You'll feel the same about the other simulations.

I had a splurge, mainly because the machine's capable of running them (new graphics card) and I have the Logitech G25 wheel..I also bought some FPS as well. I've only got demos of LFS and rFactor at the moment, I'll give them a play before paying out to buy them.

The demo of rfactor is crap, the content developed by the creators of the game is greatly inferior to the content offered by the community. www.rfactorcentral.com

Richard Burns Rally is the best rallying sim, well worth looking out for. The mechanical damage in that is amazing.

Screamer 4x4 is great, it's a very realistic offroad trials game. It's getting a bit old, but the gameplay is very different yet enthralling. Makes for a great change of pace after driving the various circuit racing games. It's nothing like the other screamer games...

iRacing is subscription based, you have to really know what you want in game before you commit to that one. It's better than LFS or rFactor, but it's all about the online racing. 5 quid a month pays for a huge server array, championship tracking, stats, etc etc... Extra cars/tracks are an additional cost, but you can pretty much see them off with subscription bonuses.

LFS is good too, but the cars tend to fall into drift a bit too readily (a 120hp rwd shouldn't just power oversteer in fifth like that).
