I seem to have had a spate of ingrowing hairs in the last week or so on my face and neck. What causes it? Have I been shaving too much, too little, too close? One of them swelled the whole side of my face up within a day or two. It looked like I'd been in a punch-up! Is there any way of stopping this from occurring?

That does look a bit like overkill hehe There aren't enough blades on that guilotine....I expect at least five these days, with a wet strip!

That's the bd thing that chomped through my neck last April in a slight accident I had when doing the fastback. Meaning I don't have to shave over the scar much anymore hehe

Same fking thing that took a decent piece of my hand away last Autumn in a slight accident I had when I slipped while trying to tidy up the left-over mastic on the brickwork resultant from the removal of an old conservatory.

The skin's still a bit tight where it's grown back. Nasty bd that thing is.

Can be caused by your razor being blunt! Always try to exfoliate with some sort of scrub.

shave with the hair not against it - if you do it cuts it too close and the skin seals the pore

also try to use as few strokes of the razor as possible with a long action rather than going over the same area with short, stabbing strokes

it also stops rashes on your neck

Oh good grief! I was only trying to be amusing - I had no idea it would feckin traumatise half of PH late night readers. Now if I post up a picture of a rubber duck, I dread to think who'll tell up some traumatic story of the time they accidentally slipped in the bath. smile

Ok, I think from the sounds of it its because my razor is blunt. Which is no surprise....I've been using the same Gillette Fusion blade for the last six months biggrin I know, but it works! It never clogs up and you could shave a bear with it. Ok, I'll get a new one.

Surely if you shave WITH the whiskersyou need a razor with 47 blades don't you?

That's what the marketing men would have us believe

If you want to eliminate a shaving rash altogether, trim your beard down with small electric clippers with a no guard, not a normal electric shaver as if you were having a dry shave but clippers you would trim your sideboards with Phillips do a few, the shorther the hairs the less irritation you get when you go to have a wet shave. Took me ages to find out what stops it..

redcard The word "exfoliate" has no place on PH!
