Odd odd odd electrics

I have had electric problems for ages with the speedo swinging wildly at times eg when I put the indicators on or switched on the heater fan. The speedo was also fluttering most noticably in 4th.

Also the infamous multi block connector by the ignition switch has been getting hot.

Had it removed today and the wires hard connected - everything now appears to be perfect. All the odd behavious gone. See the culprit below.



Advice has been recieved from quite a few to get the connector removed wish I had followed the advise before.

So guys my advice is if you havent done it already replace the connector

I have exactly the same problem with the speedo Gerald.

Just one question; does hardwiring affect the ability to remove other components that were previously 'connected'?

Hi Steve yes but only if you have to replace the steering/ignition switch not a major problem

Individual Connectors instead of a single block or hard wiring would seem an obvious alternative ... no?

I was going to go for single 'bullet' type connectors.

My speedo only bounces when in 4th with the headlights on!

Yes, but there are several tens of Amps going through there which is enough to need quite a decent connector. Since the only time you would ever need to disconnect it would be to replace the ignition switch there's really no justification for the time and money involved since it actually gives a less reliable solution.

(The original manufacturer would have had no choice because the loom and switch come from different sources and you can't be soldering stuff together on a production line.)

No I think in the light of the problems many have had the simpler the better, hard wiring must give less resistance than connectors I would have thought.
